I had a lesson today and told my pro that I was doing ok in range but shocking when it came to the course. Best bit of advise was get out and play on the course more (understandable) and the other after changing some bits to my swing was a range game. Where I practice at Wycombe Heights the range is slanted from right to left anyway but has lots of markers out on the range, here is the idea:
Play a course on the range! Pick up your local card for yardages and using range markers create a fairway so for me nice and wide between the two 200's.
Say a hole is 400 yards, and you hit a drive 200 yards within the fairway and the next shot is 150 yards your obviously left with 50 yards to play with. Pick the 50 yard marker and go for it then honestly judge what you think you could sink your puts in from the distance you hit.
If your chipping distance away from your target then for me I have to chop it into the bucket if it goes in thats in the hole, next to it one putt further away two putts etc etc.
When you create a fairway with the markers if you miss it then take 20 yards off your shot.
We did a few holes to give me an idea and I have to say the mentality on the range changes, picking and using different clubs and re-adjusting your swing. I think it might help me personally when I have a range session. Any other games like this out there to make range sessions a bit more interesting?
