My understanding was that at the range, the balls you are hitting are usually about "80%" good, so any distances you hit you should in theory hit longer with the same club when you're on the course (provided you don't top it, obviously
).
So, I'm at the range last night, and even with dead arms and back/chest muscles full of lactic acid (gym session monday night, 1km swim yesterday morning), the yardages markers at the range were telling me I was hitting my 7 iron 170ish yards and my 6 iron just shy of 200.
Until yesterday I was under the impression that I hit my 5 iron about 180, 6 Iron 160-170 and my 7 iron 150-155. It wasn't particularly windy last night and now I'm baffled! I've been trying with earnest to get my yardages nailed on my clubs since starting back up, so I know what club I need to be hitting on the course, but now I'm going to have doubts next time I'm faced with 150 yards into the green.
