Hole 1 bet is £1 win is £1
Hole 2 " " £2 win is £2 total = £3,to quit would eliminate it all in the same way.
This is how some people play it and the total would be £250966
Do you double the bet or the bet winnings??
It depends how the game bet is agreed ie accumulated because if you simply play the way indicated above, if halved all the way to the 17th then won the last two you would only win £2, no better than playing £1 per hole, so you have effectively doubled nothing,by doubling the way I indicated you would have doubled your winnings just on the last 2 holes.

Your playing double or quits so you double the amount each time or you call it quits and you get nothing. So on 17 you could possible either win £131,072 or nothing, if every hole goes your way.

this is still wrong as the first bet is £1. therefore if you add losses on hole 1 (£1) to losses on hole 2 (£2) the result is an odd number. This carries through to the end as the bet is always even and the loss total always odd.
Done this way I make it £262143. (bet +(bet-1))
