Hello,

I'm rather new to golf (so I apologise if this is a simple/obvious/naive question), and am playing one of my first competitions tomorrow. I've decided to write out a shot-by-shot plan for each hole including yardages to hazards, green size, etc. I just want to be sure that using these pre-written notes and plan is within the rules of the game?

You are not breaking any rules. Just make sure that your use of the notes does not cause an unnecessary delay for your fellow competitors.

The only thing you have to be wary about is any greens map you may have made for yourself.

The rules set a maximum scale for such a map.

Any book or other paper containing a map or image of a putting green must not be larger than 4 ¼ inches x 7 inches (the “size limit”)
