Hi

Can anyone help me please? Whilst watching a few tournaments on TV recently, I have noticed in players bags, a "rod" or areial like thing sticking out, any idea what this is, racking my brain to think which players it was cant remember now.

It's a driveway marker post (assuming you are talking about the orange rod like objects?) They're not very common over here, but easily available at places like the home depot etc in the US for a dollar or two each. At least thats what they used to be, perhaps now there is a special golf aid which is a driveway marker with a different name and higher price tag!

They're mainly used as alignment aids, and sometimes for other drills such as sticking them in the ground to get feedback on hip movement or setting a plane angle for the swing.

Not sure, but, was watching Els practicing at Kingsbarns at the Dunhill Links a few weeks ago and when driving he placed a rod type of thing on the ground to aid his alignment or aim. I assume that as they go straight from practice ground to first tee they simply keep this in their bag whilst playing.

Just ask your pro for a couple of old graphite shafts, or if you want to pose like the pros:

Poser allignment sticks

My assumption earlier was correct. That site is just selling $1 driveway markers under a different name with a huge mark up!

Right, so who in the UK wants some pro alignment aids? I will get them for you for £10 each, form an orderly queue please! :D

I like the way Stewart Cink had to read what driver he was using. Surley he should know which clubs he's got in his bag!
All the juniors have these at our club. At a 10er a go parents will buy their children anything! Yep an old shaft will do the same thing! but then again it wouldn't do your street cred any good.

I have to admit to owning a set myself however its much better to use those for alignment than lieing down a expensive golf club or clubs on wet ground

Plus they make great headcover holders
