thing is I used to be a pretty good putter- bit nervy on some 4 footers for birdie or eagle though- but generally not bad, I felt I'd a good chance of holing from anywhere.......

Last 3 years I just can't get any consistency, putts of the face can feel 'clunky' or solid, a lovely solid sweetspot strike or one that sends vibrations through the shaft and it comes up short:confused:

gone to a mallet then back to a Nike method blade that gave me 1 good round and teased me that I had found the right club- today it kicked me in the nackers and said I was crap at putting with it:rolleyes:

so is it back to a mallet? or get a putting aid? or a lesson? my set up, alignment and stroke all look sound (according to playing partners) but putting is embarrassing.:o

Is it an age thing?, nerves?, to technical and mechanical?

OR do I have the langer YIPS:eek:

anyone gone through similar? what did you do to get back on track............literally

Got speaking to a 3 hc at our club after our medal today, he said he got his 1st lesson on thursday and it was 45mins on putting. He said today was the best he'd ever putted and was raving about it.

think its worth a shout

Certainly seems a technique issue to me.

So a putting lesson could well be worthwhile.

Of course, reproducing the 'bad putting' during the lesson might be difficult!

And a session on SAM Puttlab - as part of the lesson - could well produce a 'your style' putter recommendation too!

I like this approach, wonder where I can get this done

Only one I know of in Scotland comes with a 'can't recommend' label

Pletty 'Darn Sarf'!

Sorry about that

ok np, think I'll go and do some 'natural' non mechanical, instinctive putting practice:thup:

if I was to roll a ball on the green by throwing it underhand I wouldn't think about stance, arm backswing, release etc etc I would just pick the line and do it..........now to put that into putting

I'll report back after a competitive round........

I've been having putting issues of late.

My problem has been an hitting inconsistent line. The problem was with my grip.

I'm now working through grooving a new grip which has straightend me out and working well at the minute. Strike feels better too, much more solid.

As with anything, time will tell.

what I have noticed Gareth is a lovely solid strike if I go cack-handed. Pretty sure it's because my left wrist then doesn't break down as it obviously must be with the normal grip.

Feels weird though and I'd rather stay 'normal' but at least it's an indication of my possible issue

See the club hit the ball and listen for the drop - don't look.

This always works for me if I am struggling to putt well. That and getting a bit lower over the ball.

Hope this helps,

Snelly.

I have similar problems, however I struggle with distance lag putting to the point that its embarrassing. I find myself moving between my scotty Cameron when I'm putting well and my old school odyssey 2ball when things are shaky.

I think the way forward is a lesson, I've got one booked abd I don't even feel that my putting is to bad at the minute.

good luck!!

Will

I cant for the life of me work out why people would swing a putter with an arc. swing it straight back and straight through. if you are not doing this then I would suggest you learn it just like a golf swing.

don't buy a putter that's supposed to help an arc swing.

I appreciate you have to slightly arc for long putts but those inside 15 feet, i.e. the scoring zone, make sure you just keep it straight back and then accelerate straight through.
