There's an awful lot of very tabloid-esque judging, finger pointing, know it all, self righteous posting on this forum recently. Just read the recent Madeleine McCann thread for instance. It gets on my wick and makes this a much less attractive place to spend time.

Many people dont apear to think they are responsibe for their actions these days. It often seems that it's someone elses fault, the Government, the NHS, the Council etc. I guess it is the Governments fault in a round about way by creating such a Nanny State where we are taxed untill the pips squeek and then our money is squandered on things the state believes is best for us; thus relieving us of the responsibility to manage ourn own lives.

So we are not allowed to express an opinion that is a major talking point across the country? This is what forums are for are they not? Peoples opinions on certain topics are always going to differ and there is good and bad argument on most. Forums are where people can express them openly. Its not bloody North Korea!!! Im not sure why you come on here if you dont want to express an opinion or dont like people expressing there own.....Im confused....

Sure people can express an opinion, it's just that some find the need of people to go out of their way to castigate parents every time there's a tragedy involving children pretty unappealing and possibly think those conversations are best left between fellow golf club bores in the club house and not on a forum.

And I am entitled to that opinion as as you point out it's not North Korea

Well! I am not a Republican as I'm not American. I quite like a tea party but must confess to not being a member of one or of having desires to be a candidate to be a member. I don't even know what the Daily Show is about but if they agree with me then I will make a toast to them with a nice strong cup of darjeeling.

I think the reaction of some posters on this topic reflects society as a whole, let's not aportion blame in case we upset someone. Is a forum the right place to debate these things probably not, however the truth of the matter is with the attitude some have shown nothing will change and these terrible tradgedies will continue.....
Ask yourself these basic questions, and at the end of the day that is what it is all about responsible parenting.

1.Would you leave your children (One a babe in arms) alone in a strange country let alone at home (bear in mind it is a criminal offence and if it were a single mother on benifits she would now be serving a jail sentence now and would have been strung up in the press etc)
2. Would you allow a large dog in your home to play and be alone with your child when you knew nothing about that animal.
3. Would you allow your 13/14 year old to walk the streets in the small hours of the morning, never mind not knowing where they are.

All three are a recipie for disaster and that is sadly just what happened. All three are the result of iresponisble even Illegal parenting.
No a forum is not the place to discuss any of the above, but they need to be disscussed somewhere to prevent them happening ever again......

Personally would never think of bringing these matters up on a forum, and certainly wouldn't want to get into the rights and wrongs of individual cases. Sensitive cases are not best served on open forums (in my opinion)

Then you need to loose the area of a forum that offers the opportunity to people to do just that....i.e off topic or out of bounds areas. Its ridiculous to conclude that only certain topics may be discussed in this area when there's a whole host of controversial topics being discussed in the media and all over social media sites elsewhere. Yes of course you need to maintain an air of diplomacy, tact and of course no personal attacks etc should be allowed but you've got to let these subjects be discussed if punters wish to do so.
Having part run a forum for years, you cant over police it or people just wont bother to make comment or discuss anything of any interest. Equally of people dont like the subject or the way a subject is being discussed, then don't read it or make comment and go and discuss how they sliced their drive off the 4th tee elsewhere... fascinating.

Never even occurred to me to start a thread on such a subject, and wouldn't want to discuss in public. Obviously a lot do. Each to his own, but I do believe I am allowed to have my say, even if it is to say a thread is inappropriate.:mmm:

Talking about life in general, not just the issues raised here. People do not think about the consequences of their actions IMO. I think people should stop, think more and see what could happen if it goes wrong and what the likely of it going wrong is.


Take the incident that is being discussed as an example. Bring a large potentially dangerous dog into your home where there are small children playing, whether a pedigree from a reputable breeder or a rescue home. I think there is always the risk that at some point that child might just do something that makes the dog react in a way that causes harm. I have read before about placid, friendly dogs biting their owners, so they would not think twice about biting a small child if something did provoke them.

I watched an RAF copper get taken down by one of the dog handlers guard dogs once. Fortunately because the dog handler was there nothing serious happened. So that is a highly trained dog, trained to be obedient and only act upon command that reacted in a bad way to someone that it knew. By the way it was the RAF coppers fault.
