putting lessons

You can try aimpoint speed class... the problem with you tube instruction is that there no feedback on your game...

Aim point isn't really in my mind. That's about the reading of putts is it not? I'm happy eniugh with that aspect atm. It's more putting a stroke on it. If I somehow end up with a faultless stroke and continue to miss I may look into it.

Weight is the most important part of putting. You can miss the hole by 1/8 " and be five feet past leaving a five foot return. You can be a foot wide but with the correct weight and only have a foot put to make.

This video shows a great way to consider putting, I recommend it strongly:

Thanks for sharing. I'm struggling with pace on long putts. Going to take this the practice green tomorrow

I've never had a putting lesson, I've just bought another putter instead:rofl:

I won a lesson with Peter Finch at H4H last year so once the weather gets a bit better hopefully I'll get him to have a look at my putting.

Ive tried that too!

four Scottys, an oddysey and a Dunlop down and it's yet to help!

Honestly.

I have no real technique at all.

I bought a bigger grip grip to stop being wristy and tried tucking my elbows in and felt it was working in practice, but once it goes wrong during a round I have no confidence in a technique.

I suggest you watch some Youtube clips of some of the guys on tour putting, for example Luke Donald and Tiger and compare your stroke.

3 things to note.
1. A solid lower body...........nothing moves below the waist
2. Elbows tucked into the body............stops the arms from becoming detached and swinging all over the place.
3. Firm wrists........a must to stop the hands flipping and hitting the ball giving little control over distance and direction.

Then practice........lots

turns out a friend of a friend knows someone there.

Said they'd been there and I've noticed first hand an improvement in their putting over winter. So can't hurt. £60 for an hours evalutaion and lesson.

This is usually run by David Miller, ive been a couple of times and the SAM tells all, its located right opposite Ashford Golf Club about 500 yards down the lane on the right I agree with Spongebob though, that i learned a lot with Aimpoint and got some great tips from Jamie Donaldson during the course.

General question for all.
When people count their putts on a round to check how they're doing...
Do you/ should you... also include putt type shots you may have used an iron for when on the apron or just off the green for example?

I dont. I purely count putts on a green. For a one off round stats can be skewed as putting from fringe could leave you with lots of one putts.

But it for me, averaging over 36 putts over 30 plus rounds I know I need to improve.

Yes and no!

I dont understand how people expect to get the right weight on a putt when they hit the ball harder with the putter for a longer putt. All the best putters I have seen stroke through the ball at the same tempo. I use a fixed tempo for every putt and make a longer swing for more distance but always at the same tempo. Tke a look at this:
