Who’s had 1 or 2 lessons in putting? and Who records their putting stroke for analysis?

The simplest and most used shot/stroke in the game but the hardest to master?

We all go to the range to hit some balls, but who here putts (;-p) effort into their putting game?

Had a putting lesson which pointed out a few issues which I took on board. Dont practice my putting and dont use the putting green before a round, except for chipping, just seems to work better for me that way

i record my putts per round, i get around 36 putts per round, so average 2 putts per green. a lot does depend on the approach though!!

Never letting anyone look at my putting again. I am the first to admit I have a terrible short for a single figure handicapper. But it is my ability to smash the ball long and straight and putt that gets me round in the 70's. I had a short game lesson to try and help me with this. The pro highlighted a couple of very basic errors in my chipping and also had a look at my putting even though I was not interested in having that messed around with. He told me to try a couple of different things with my putting stroke. Even though I did not believe I had a problem with it, he is the teacher so I listened believing I may be able to hole a couple of more putts a round. Well he did me proud didn't he.......... i still could not get up and down as often as I would like and now I could not bloody putt either and all of a suddeen started to shoot about 5 shots worse than I was before the lesson. It took a few weeks to change my putting stroke back to the one that worked perfectly well before and my score came straight back down. Still look like an 18 handicapper when I am chipping but the putter works fine and so does the driver. I have learnt to accept that magical scratch handicap is never gonna happen........

My point is to be careful with who you see when it comes to the short game. It is such a specialized area of the game where having a consistent stroke is not enough. You have to be able to feel the shot and choose the correct one unlike me.

Pretty much the only practicing I do is putting. My putting average for the year is 29.1... best not say how bad my long game is.

I had a putting lesson a couple of years back and it pointed out a couple of things which having taken on board has made my putting more consistent.
As far as tracking my putting stats, if I use the Scoring facility on my SkyCaddie, it tracks the number of putts per hole.

I keep a very anorakish spreadsheet when I keep a full score and record fairways hit, greens in reg and putts plus the overall score etc. Split that down hole by hole and it gives me my own stroke index and average putts per round/hole...% fairway, % GIR etc and pretty colours in it too

I have had a couple of putting lessons and both have helped me have a solid routine which I stick to and is repeatable under pressure. I have however had a few bad rounds with the putter so am trying not to get too technical rather than let instinct take over....albeit following the routine/technique I am committed to.

I have incorperated putting into lessons from time to time as I usually like a one hour lesson. I don't keep records as I think I know when I am putting well or badly.

When I had my putting lesson at the start of the 2009 season my putts per round for the first six months dropped from 33.89 to 30.47. Haven't had a lesson since and despite using the v-easy etc it is too inconstant and back at 33.41 for 2011.

That said I did an hour on the putting green yesterday and found a bit of a mojo with the old Odyssey white ice # 9 especially from close range. I've enough isues to sort out over the winter but a putting refresher is definitely on the cards for the start of the 2012 season

I used to have short game/putting lessons from a pro (DAN PECK) who was at the DAVE PELZ ACADEMY in the states cracking guy and would spend an hour or so just giving tips and how to practice properly and what to look for on the greens and all for a couple of pints but love to put the i-pod on and spend a couple of hours on the practice ground chipping and putting 3 times a week rather than hitting ball after ball on the range.

obviously technique is important but when you watch the Tour players there are so many different ways to putt.

For me the key to putting is imagination. You have to see the shot before you hit it.

One of the best drills is where you putt a ball from 3 feet from the hole and take no back swing.

As this is from a dead start you have to apply an upward through stroke to get the ball moving.

Just watch a pro putt and see how high the putter head comes up after impact.

have to disagree Dave. I believe it should be low on the backswing and you clip the ball on the up swing so as to get top spin on the ball and so a truer roll.

If it mirrors the backswing then as you hit the ball it jumps forward.

Most pros now have a Yess putting board which shows you the true swing path for a putter.

The fact I only need 25 puts around max, then. Not bad for someone doing it wrong eh?? Or so you say!!!

For me the stroke is a pendulum movment. No hands or arms, all controlled by the shoulders. So the backswing is the same as the follow though. Ball is positioned under my front eye(domanant eye). So I hit it just at the start of the up stroke.
