Even better would be if you had holed your provisional. ...
What actually happens then? Surely your opponent couldn't go and find your first ball then as you've effectively completed the hole? Would you pick the ball out of the hole before he finds your first effort? Or is there nothing you can do but watch him search for your ball for 5 minutes?

You are deemed to have holed out when you remove your provisional ball from the hole.

interesting - a ball in the hole completes the hole...does that then end matters - even if a.n.other finds your original...before when? Before you tee off on next hole? But if your original is found BEFORE you tee off on next hole do you have to go back and play your original?
