Hi gang. I am looking for a putter to use on very slow greens. I am having trouble lately getting the ball to and past the hole and was wondering if a heavier putter would help to cure the problem? I like to stroke the ball not hit at it and this may be the root problem. Anyone know a heavier model of putter, all makes considered.

Consider a mallet putter. Very easy to hit past the hole and good brands such as odessey and scotty cameron.

Pal was fitted with a Fisher putter because he decelerated on the downswing - the weight of the Fisher is meant to cure that. I had a bash with it and it is indeed heavy promoting a smooth stroke. Could be what you need.

No the root of the problem is you're not taking a long enough stroke.

I suppose if you still feel it is the putter weight and you like the Pings why not get one of the iWi putters and just change the weights when you are playing slower greens. This means you don't have to get used to different putters.

I agree with Birdieman and Viscount17, the Fisher putters are heavy and have a nice solid feel. In fact will be my next club buy - if I can find a good deal.

dg do the Heavy Putter' - and it certainly is
ag do Fisher Putters

Shall I not bother going the extra 20 miles tomorrow to try out a "heavy putter"?

there are, apparently, two series of heavy putters, one at 900 grams, the other 750 grams. the 'average' putter is around 350,I think, and the Fishers are between 380 and 470.

so it all depends whether you want a sledge hammer.

I use the same putter weight all year, I just adjust my swing. Heavy putters don't really work for me, and I think adjusting back in the summer would be an issue.

If you like your current putter and the design allows, why not just add some weights to it?
I have some self adhesive ones that are used to balance wheels/tyres and have added a couple of these to my putters in the past and they work perfectly well.
I have some spare so if you'd like me to pop a few in the post to you I'm quite happy to do that.
I am now using a Yes Tracy putter and find it is perfect for me without weights but my previous MD and Bettinardi putters needed a little extra "beef" for me and this is what I used them on.
Just make sure they are positioned correctly, and Bob's your Uncle.
PM me if you want to take me up on my offer

;)
