I'm not sure which of the two sins I committed yesterday on the forum led to my punishment tonight, whether it was posting a thread semi gloating about getting eighteen holes yesterday in lovely weather when pretty much everyone was waterlogged or posting my opion that you should only walk off during a comp due to lightning or injury - whichever one it was I apologise, but I've been punished and hopefully with your forgiveness I can be allowed back to normal.

Here's my punishment - Went to the magnificent St Andrew Links driving range for a hit tonight - I hit the ball really well on the course yesterday, new swing has been repeating well, and just wanted to ingrain the latest swing change a bit more after it worked so well yesterday.

Got a bucket of fifty balls, out with my favourite six iron (the club I base my practice around) checked my posture was right and had a practice swing, checked top of the swing position - all was fine up to now - then I hit the ball, duffed fifty yards along the deck.

No problem I thought everyone duffs one occasionally - next one at least was airborne but it was weak, high and well right. Next one was better - solid hit - thirty degrees left. I went on like this for a while then I hit one sweet - I'll be OK now I thought - until I hit the next one which was back to the rubbish.

I'd have walked away at this point except that I'd paid £3.50 for the bucket of balls - it got worse as a wee ginger haired girl appeared in the bay next to me with a coach who told her to start with a six iron - she was about 13 or 14 and started firing lovely controlled draws which were going about 160-170 yards into a 20 mph wind - all this time I'm hitting alternate shoves balloon balls and big pulls - hit another good one with my second last ball - I should have left the last ball.

Two decent shots in 50 balls - while a little girl was ripping the same number iron on a prefect line time after time - with a pink glove on!

Walked out of the range gutted with golf - was starving by this point so went and got fish and chips and parked next to the eighteenth fairway of The Old Course to eat them - which cheered me up a bit.

I'm next due at the range on Thursday morning - hopefully forgiveness for my sins will come from the golfing gods by then.

Dye your hair ginger, stick on a tutu, change your name to Susan and you'll be okay and when putting next time, ask you playing partner if it would be okay if they held you hand bag.

It happens sometimes. If you are tired or not quite in synch. Annoying that a wee lassie put you to shame (or amusing for the rest of us). See what happens at the next range session but if you are playing well on the course cest la vie

I had a bucket of balls at St Andrews Links driving range. Hit about a dozen balls so badly I gave up and gave the balls to a youngster. I think it is the range rather than the golfer.

If you're in Tayside that 14 yr old girl has learned to play like that in between raising her two kids, double shame:lol:
