Meant to be teeing off at 11, forecast is -1, with a 'feels like' temperature of -5.

surely you need to be some kind of masochist to play in that?

We scratched today's game yesterday afternoon.
Fragger's still fragile and CVG doesn't work in the extreme cold.
Add to that - it's supposed to be enjoyable.
If you enjoy getting your nether regions frozen solid then crack on.
Me?
I'm staying in.
Sometimes it's just not worth going out.
Today's the day!

I played in sub zero temperatures last week and it was okay. Actually it felt a lot warmer than it was, because there was no wind and later in the day even the sun came out, making it quite pleasant. (And I was wearing more layers than an eskimo) The ground was absolutely frozen solid, though, making approach shots pretty much impossible, because the ball was just bouncing whichever way it wanted. Putting was no fun either ... our winter greens are horrible this year and some even had snow on them. But full shots with driver or woods got a lot of extra roll, which for a short hitter like me is always a nice bonus. All in all it was a good experience, though, and I will play again tomorrow. You just should not take it seriously or compare it to your usual rounds in summer.

No or little wind and I would play no issue. -1 isn't that cold if there is no wind blowing.

Any hint of wind or rain and I'm heading back indoors.

As I always say. I play in rain wind or cold, as long as its only one of them.

Was -5 when I teed off in a winter league match at 8am last Saturday, sunny and white. Course was fully open, albeit with concrete greens, still managed to shoot 3 under handicap to win the match though. Thoroughly enjoyed being out there, as for the cold, layers, leggings, two pairs of socks etc. was totally toasty.

Teed off last Saturday in -4. The ground was solid and greens were like hitting approaches onto table tops. It was all bump and run and hoping for lucky bounces and deflections.

It was about as much fun as root canal surgery with anaesthetic to be honest.

Later in the clubhouse warming our frozen hands with mugs of coffee we sat around and asked one another why were we being so daft?

Same time next week then?

I think some one here taking it far too seriously. winter golf i a walk and a laugh with mates. We play all though winter and play on rock hard ground quite often, its fun, we don't take it that serious and the score often is unimportant individually as we always play 4 ball better ball.

Drop a couple of hand warmers in your pants and you will soon warm up. Get your layers on and your fine. Played yesterday and god it was cold, and off out again in an hour.

this is spot on its golf or Marks & Spencer's wit HID.

RB - Are you still at Arcot? Is that not a bog at the moment anyway?

Still at Arcot. It's actually in decent nick, not boggy at all. Trolley ban finally got lifted this week and been on proper greens most days.

Lots of work going on to remove trees and significantly cut back the rough, the course is better for it.

Good to hear. I'm at Linden. The fairways are fine but go off them and it is pretty squelchy. The walks between holes are particularly bad.

I've not played Arcot before. Maybe when the weather picks up we can have a home and away game?
