I know that a few of you on here have PS3's and was wondering if you could help me fix mine.

I recently went back to my PS3 after 3 months of not touching it, at all. Now everytime I insert a disc of any sort it refuses to read it and the little loading icon in the top right continues to spin, but the game is still not recognize the game, or any other disc (CD,DVD etc).

Any tips on how fix it please?

I had this happen to my first two PS3's but a quick phone call to Sony UK saw them sending out replacement units the following day.
My third one has been perfect now for over a year....that's gonna cook it for sure

But did you buy yours directly from sony or elsewhere e.g. play.com?

I bought mine from PC World.
But it doesn't matter where it came from...as long as it's UK spec I guess. Sony UK were brilliant in handling my problems. I wrote to them expressing my concerns that such an expensive item had malfunctioned twice. On the basis that I had purchased mine as a Blu-ray player first and foremost (in preference to a stand alone) it was, in fact, the "hub" of my home entertainment system. I was worried that it was going to prove unreliable, and suggested that maybe I should have bought a standard player rather than rely on a games machine for such an important task. They took the trouble to write back, allaying (sp?) my fears, promising the same level of service should I have further problems and enclosed a couple of free games to make up for my disappointment. As I say, great service. I couldn't have asked for better.

Common problem (assuming you have the 60gig model?)

sony released an update which killed several 60gig users unlucky enough to have switched it on with the new update, they reliaed the bug was present and an update was issued next day but many ps3s went south because of this. Sony will send you a refurbed/repaired model under warranty and repair yours for the next unlucky so and so who didnt get the fix.

If it aint a 60gig then sorry!

Sorry - duff info from me then!

Did have a look around a guy who had same disc read issue said he got around it by loading up home, then quitting home via the ps3 button before it gets to the log in screen, he then found the discs had been read and where there from the xmb. Worth trying if you're out of warranty maybe?
