Provision for local rule?

The proximity of the road to the fairway landing zone and the possible consequences of any bounce would be taken account of in the rating process.

The SI would depend on whether the club was using 'match play' or 'difficulty' criteria.
In either case it is the same for all.

If a bogey player can't reach it, that is where slope will eventually come in.

The England Golf course rating process will be changed to the USGA process wef Jan 2014. This will bring England Golf men into line with the rest of the GB & Ireland and Europe.

The English Golf Union system only rated courses for scratch players. The USGA system involves separate ratings for scratch and bogey players. Bogey is defined as about 20 handicap.

The difference in the rating is measured by 'slope'. ie a straight line gradient running from the scratch rating through the bogey rating and on.

When playing any course or tees, a player determines his playing handicap by checking his handicap against a table which gives him his playing handicap for that course/tees.

Many upmarket courses, particularly in Scotland & Ireland, already provide this information for tourists from the USA and Europe.

We won't see slope in England for a good few years as all the men's tees for some 2000 courses have to be re-rated.
The USGA scratch rating gives virtually the same figure as the current SSS so will have no virtually effect on qualifying comps and CSS.
