Reading all the above makes me realise what an indifferent year I've had.
Started on 13, finished on 13, won nothing, can't even remember a stand out shot.
But I'll still be back for more come the start of the 2011 season, including entering the singles matchplay for the first time.
you can't beat a bit of snow and a knee operation to give some time for reflection.
1 - getting under 20 Handicap - just!
2 - winning the Pro's stableford
3 - actually realising that lessons ARE the way forward, and not just buying another club.
All in all a good year, certainly progress forward. Just need it all to come together for the Trilby Tour next year now
Obviously my achievements aren't the same as the lowest handicappers on here, but i'm proud all the same:
1) winning society with 3 wins, and society handicap down to 5!
2) although not a club member, scoretracking each round & getting down to 12.5hcp (in the process shooting 10 over (3 better than previous), 9 over, 9 over in 6 days, before finishing 13.8
3) 2 eagles from 75 & 30 yards and seeing them both go in!! (hadn't seen previous 2 go in)
4) 30 birdies and chipping in around a dozen or so times (unbelievably after Lee Westwood chipped in on the 18th yesterday, he said that was his first of the year??)
Proudest achievement of the year for me was coming joint 6th in the national UKPCC final at St. Andrews in September. Having won my club stableford in May to qualify I followed up by posting the best score from 100 competitors in the regional final at a designated course in July.
Either shooting a PB 67 or holding my own with Smiffy when we played the match against Ping and they were holing out from everywhere - a top drawer memory that I'll never forget.
Oh, and taking the piss out of Robert Rock when he finally made a birdie in our match and I said "Give us some skin" and we all had a friendly 'knuckle rub' Too funny!
Made it the whole season without shooting over 79 gross
Seeing my son recover from his heart valve transplant quicker than the hospital ever thought he would and playing the St Andrews Old Course with golfcitydweller and not making an arse of myself.
Not too much good this year - shot a career best 6 over in a friendly matchplay in February but it went downhill from there. The only other highlight was eagle number 4 and my first at my home course!
Have written this season off as a bad idea. No high lights, and not many low lights either. Just a general duff year. Roll on next year. It can't be worse.
Struggled with my game. Not a great year but enjoyed some good days out with mates.
Highlights for me were the trips up to Forest Pines, the long week-end in Scotland and playing at Castle Stuart, Nairn and Spey Valley, the Ping day at Walton Heath, and visiting the Ping HQ at Gainsborough and playing a reasonable game with James around the Karsten Lakes course. Shows that there is still a game in there somewhere.
Also played the Trilby Tour event at Bearwood Lakes, great day out but didn't play as well as I know I can.
Next year will be better.
- Rebuilding my swing completely when at 7.0 h/c in May and managing to get to my all time low of 6.6 last month after going up to 9.4 while struggling with the new swing.
- Shot a season's low of 1 over last month during a qualifier. (Missed an 8 inch tap in which would have given me my second ever scratch round)
- Playing for the scratch team, but then getting dropped as I struggled with the new swing.
- Just missing out on retaining an honours board trophy by 1 point
- Getting to the regional final of the HDID singles matchplay
- Playing in the Trilby tour at Bearwood Lakes off the back tees and getting 3 birdies, (but still failed to qualify!!) Have already entered for next year.
I think it was a "close, but no cigar" season, however I feel like I've got a really strong foundation for a great 2011 which will hopefully see me achieve my ambition of playing Cat 1 golf.
1st high was being able to walk 18 albet with a powercaddy.
2nd high doing 36 in 1 day again albet they ewere rather flat courses, being a little bit whacked by 16 though.
Overall getting the flight direction correct and starting to sort out the putting stroke.
Best £20 spent on the V-easy, so many uses so easy.
Thanks Bob
