Proud dad thread but?

I disagree with this line of thinking. We have already seen Police killed due to them having to defend against terrorists with batons and pepper spray, we have also seen the public killed and maimed because the police couldn't protect them. This argument that if the police are armed the criminals will use automatic weapons is a red herring, look at the evidence rather than supposition. Countries like Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland have armed Police, do we see criminals in these countries spraying them with automatic rifle fire? The evidence is this doesn't happen but it does make people think twice before challenging police authority and carrying knives and guns. We dont live in a Britain where Dixon of dock green or Z cars patrol our streets, we live in a Britain where people are knifed or shot almost every day in our cities. If it was you faced with an assailant carrying a knife or gun how would you like to be armed, would a baton and pepper spray make you feel safe.

And we have the lowest death toll per 100,000 population figure in Europe I believe at first read

How many recent terror attacks on the tube? Bombings are old school.. too easy to get caught
Genuinely don’t know how to answer this.

Nice to debate though mate and don’t believe either of us will change our opinions. (y)

Likewise 👌 best of luck against Liverpool 😜

Those links are unrelated to this discussion. They show a number of cases where someone has gone on a shooting spree killing people, we have experienced a number of these in the UK. The issue is concerning whether a Policeman/woman could defend themselves and others better when faced with attack by an armed assailant if they were armed themselves. If it was me I know what I would prefer.

So your completely ignoring the last link that is deaths from firearms in relation to population because? Because it has Germany , France , Sweden and the Swiss ahead of us? Who you said you don’t hear about and they are armed police

Also we have trouble filling SO19 now because people don’t want to be sued so how is arming all of them gonna go down?

Sorry mate, but use a pun, you’ve shot yourself in the foot with that link, that chart shows the stats for one year and does not compare the same year. Germany for example is from 2012, yet one of your other links is to a mass shooting in Germany in 2016.

I maybe wrong but I think that may just be the best year on record for each Country.

They are different links
2 are from Germany mass shootings

And then one was gun related deaths per country in relation to population

I was finding links and then came across that one so stopped my search but left first 2 in because couldn’t be arsed to delete them

Going back to a point Tash made in the OP, the mental pressures on these armed guys must be massive. How many mainstream coppers would really want to sign up to that, how many realistically would be suitable and don't forget you have to serve time as a normal copper first (so I understand) and they are having issues recruiting in the same way as the NHS so how do you bring enough in to cover those going into firearms?

Ha Ha, that’s a crap excuse mate.

Honesty is the only policy.

I couldn’t be arsed to google every single countries gun killings so found a page that had figures much better 👌

Who knows? Other Countries manage it though, maybe we learn from those.

Or maybe we’d get more applying to be Coppers if they believe they are getting the appropriate tools in their opinion.
