Hi all. As some of you know, I took the plunge 3 weeks ago and booked a course of 6 lessons. Half way through I have adjusted my grip, re-aligned myself to the target and almost eliminated the dreaded slice. My backswing is now better thanks to understanding the correct plane and my Pro has also shown me how I was casting the club at the top and has shown me how to correct this, which I understand and am working on.
Score wise, not much change, although I can feel the changes beginning to take shape and expect the scores to improve once the changes have been ingrained.
The main thing I am struggling with is the release. No matter how early I feel I am breaking the wrists, everything is pushed right. Any advice/drils to help with this would be much appreciated!

Happy Golfing.

I think I know what you are getting at......no matter how you try to release the clubface through impact, you can't get it square. Please, please don't get into the habit of releasing early in the hope of getting it square.....you'll lose a load of distance and be stuck with the 1,000s of us that are constantly fighting delaying the release with hitting it straight. The earlier you release, the worse a golfer (in terms of strike and power) you will become. DON'T mess with this anymore.....go see your pro.

Reality is you are probably either using too neutral a grip or the face is opening too much during the backswing. Try the modern approach to the 9 o'clock position, rather than having the toe pointed 100% skywards, keep the face looking at the ball during the takeaway move so at 9 o'clock you are a bit "shut". If you can do this, and not lose the slightly "closed" clubface throughout the backswing, you'll be hitting draws and hooks (most probably!!) before you know it.

If you don't understand some of this, I'm sure others will elaborate.

Another possible cause of this blocking is that you may be taking the club back too much on the inside. This will ensure you are coming back on an in to out path but unless you get square and straight in the few inches before and after the ball you will be blocking the shot out to the right.
Take a look at your divot. If it is straight towards the target I would agree with realgolfer when he says your face is a little open. However, if your divot is pointing to the right then you are coming on too much of an in to out path.
God these right and left things really screw me up when I try to convert from my left handed style. I have reread this post a few times and I think I have them down correctly. Feel free to correct me guys if I have mislead anyone.

Hope this helps

I struggled with this when I changed my grip and had my swing rebuilt.

I pushed everythin at first.

My pro told me each time my shots started to go out to the right, put my legs together and just concentrate on getting the ball airbourne and down the middle, forget about distance as that would come with time. He wanted me too really try to feel I was playing the shot with my hands rather than my arms and body.

I would general hit about 4-5 shots like this and some how it got the club turning over well. Then I would go back to hitting normal shots!

What I did for a while was just stand in the garden, going through my swing. With out there actually being a ball in the way I felt I could physically turn the hands over more easily.

Try it out and see if you can feel the same as i did.
