Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

If you want great lies, play simulator golf. Outside golf, just do as it says in post above.
Not really. If he wants to, him and his mates can play golf without any rules. Preferred lies anywhere on the course, no stroke and distance just drop one, anything inside 6 feet given, etc, etc.

They just have to revert back to proper, compelling, challenging golf when and if they enter competitions.

What’s wrong with preffered lies 🤷‍♂️
If used for minor course difficulties it takes additional time and reduces variety. If conditions are particularly poor it may speed up play a little and help.Fine if conditions are very poor but not how I get the most enjoyment from golf which is dealing with difficult problems at times rather than always giving a great lie.

It is preferred lies only in closely mown areas so all it’s doing is reducing the the mud balls

Miss the fairway and playing as it lies

The tours are far too eager to implement free relief when the conditions do not necessitate any, and with fantastically conditioned fairways, preferred lies is almost never the appropriate MLR for the situation they are attempting to address (mud balls).

Preferred lies is the wrong MLR for dealing with mud balls.
PL is for more extreme problems with course conditions, as it allows moving the ball to a more favourable position, on tour commonly up to a club length away. As such, it can materially affect the difficulty of the shot faced, especially around the edges of fairways and greens, and should not be implemented unless absolutely necessary.

We do this in the winter. If you play golf on clay, you're just punishing yourself otherwise.
Pro golf is not a recreational round though. Somehow they've got it into their heads that golf has to be "fair". As they run the tours, that's what they get. It's only 3 of the Majors that ever push back on them. Which is why they're the most compelling.
