It's not that they're calling him good, or even the best, it's the pretense that he never hits bad shots or make mistakes (their exact words) when we can all see that he does - and quite frequently at that - and often gets away with it, either by sheer luck or great recovery; but not always. It's simply inane commentary, and it's no surprise that Laura Davies and Andrew Coltart are among the most guilty.TV commentators call the best golfers in the world good shock.

I'm not sure why people seem to like Pepperell. To me he always comes across as a bit of misplaced arrogance and a chip on his shoulder. I tried that podcast a few times but he put me off it.I saw some golf-media headlines yesterday about Eddie Peperell’s comments on Justin Rose and his supposed ‘superficiality’….think it was from the Chipping Forecast
But then in the paragraphs below, Peperell couldn’t elaborate —- just the usual absence of specifics
I find that quite pathetic to say that…If you’re going to label someone, something, then be a man and be consistent to stand by that by giving context to your audience and to back up your pejorative remarks. Nothing wrong with not liking someone, esp if you know them personally. But it just smacks of gossipy spite otherwise
What’s the story with them?
I agree. They need to give that narrative a rest. It's not that they're calling him good, or even the best, it's the pretense that he never hits bad shots or make mistakes (their exact words) when we can all see that he does - and quite frequently at that - and often gets away with it, either by sheer luck or great recovery; but not always. I listened to the latest ‘Chipping Forecast’ where they discussed Rose’s victory at length.I saw some golf-media headlines yesterday about Eddie Peperell’s comments on Justin Rose and his supposed ‘superficiality’….think it was from the Chipping Forecast

Haven't heard the particular comments but in full coverage of golf there are often inane comments as there is a lot of time to cover so I'm not surprised. But nor am I surprised that they are calling Scottie a good golfer . I would agree with them that he is.It's not that they're calling him good, or even the best, it's the pretense that he never hits bad shots or make mistakes (their exact words) when we can all see that he does - and quite frequently at that - and often gets away with it, either by sheer luck or great recovery; but not always. C'mon now, you can do better than this...Niemann ......
.... him and Scottie vying for top dog
Better than what? Bryson is probably recognised as in the top 3 or 4 and he's massively outperformed him?C'mon now, you can do better than this...
Could argue the difference is Bryson has has 2 Majors.Better than what? Bryson is probably recognised as in the top 3 or 4 and he's massively outperformed him?
If you don't like Liv fair play I'm just a golf fan![]()
So he's outperformed a 2 time major champion all year? Can personally see him winning 3 or 4 majors.Could argue the difference is Bryson has has 2 Majors.
I do think Niemann, Rahm and Bryson are absolutely wasted as a Talent on Liv compared to the ranking points they can get and better competition level on regular tour. But can’t blame them for going and earning some absolute coin.
So he's outperformed a 2 time major champion all year? Can personally see him winning 3 or 4 majors.
As I say that he's just duck hooked one into the agua![]()
Not the best argument history is littered with great players that led money lists, world no1s and out performed people during normal events but when it comes to majors and being able to perform under the real pressure that’s different. So he's outperformed a 2 time major champion all year? Can personally see him winning 3 or 4 majors.

I get that he hasn't done well yet but it dosnt mean he won't.He maybe a very good player but right now in the majors he hasn’t been good
There are lots of talented players that have done well on various tours but just haven’t done it in a major
Im genuinely intrigued as to how you think Liv is the 2nd strongest tour!I get that he hasn't done well yet but it dosnt mean he won't.
Liv is by far the second strongest tour and his win percentage is phenomenal.
Let's see what happens next year![]()
He is performing well against arguably a very thin depth of competitionI get that he hasn't done well yet but it dosnt mean he won't.
