Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

He cant just use the PGAT pictures to document the whole round, sadly, unlike LIV, the PGAT don’t have any shot anytime coverage.

Grant was there because of his YouTube presence - documenting the story would have been great for both him, the event, and the tour

media companies paying millions for exclusive rights to PGAT events - why would he eve think it would be ok to film whilst playing events

And then to not play because he can’t film it seems even more stupid

These you tube golfers appear to have high opinions of themselves

There are thousands of golfers out there working themselves to the ground to try and get into events like this and he turns it down because he can’t film it himself

The tours need to stop pandering to these social media people and put their efforts into rewarding those working to become tour golfers

Don’t offer them any more spots

I honestly wonder if he’s bottled it and didn’t want to play. The great challenge for these guys is the constant need for fresh content ideas that aren’t just the same as everyone else’s. He would have got massive exposure (not all golf fans are current YouTube golf viewers) and an absolutely huge amount of content that no other creator would have and would have scored big view numbers: “Road to Barracuda” preparations, post-round and post-event reaction and analysis and all of that.

I still don’t see why people get fixated with these you tube guys - if they were good enough to be tour players then that’s what they would be doing - is it a bit like watching in the hope they have a mare

Was Peter Finch wrong to film Open qualifying multiple times?

Did anyone have media rights to film Open qualifying 🤷‍♂️

It was also an event he qualified for by his own right , no invite

His main aim and goal was to qualify for The Open

If he was told he couldn’t film it do you think he would have pulled out

Open final qualifying is worlds away from a PGAT event

If Peter Finch was forbidden from filming his Quest for The Open series I absolutely guarantee you he wouldn’t commit to it in the manner he has.

If Horvat plays the Barracuda but can’t film it, he’s effectively giving up hid time for nothing to help promote the event.

You can’t guarantee anything of the sort

He has been battling to get into the Open for years

He wouldn’t give up that chance imo

But the comparison is miles off

If Horvat plays the Barracuda but can’t film it, he’s effectively giving up hid time for nothing to help promote the event.

He has been given an invite to a major tour event with the sports biggest tour

That’s not nothing by any stretch

I'm with you. Horvat obviously has no ambitions of being a professional golfer - his profession is YouTuber and he's committed to that. Hence, playing in the event and not being able to film it would be like one of us doing a day's work for free. It is a great opportunity, but in his world, that opportunity is to create good content for his channel - so if he can't do that there is little point in him taking up a spot in the field. I respect his decision.

Dude...take a few days off, play with the Pros in a proper PGAT event...
You can still produce plenty of interesting content before and after the rounds....
Or you can be an idiot, throw your toys out and pass up a great opportunity that may not come again...

For me it just shows how overly self-important these "YouTube Stars" think they have become.
Grab a reality check and your clubs........

Grant plays golf on a regular basis with some of the greatest golfers of our generation.

Maybe playing a comp with the likes of Mr Pak, Mr Ghim, and Mr Wu isn’t quite the big deal to him that some might think it is.

And these guys are hugely important to the game, Horvat is way more recognisable than the majority of players who compete professionally

I can see both sides of this.

I haven’t read the rules, but is he not allowed to have someone film from the fans side of the ropes and be mic’s up like he did on the KFT?

If he did film it the video would quickly be 1m plus views, that’s good for the game and it’s also being viewed by, but I don’t think you can make an exception for him just because of who/what he is. Not clearing this up before the invite is an oversight that’s now just creating more public discussion.

There was a young YT creator/golfer (are the two things actually quite separate) who asked something like: would they rather have 5 million followers or win a Major, their choice was to have the 5mil !

That kinda summed up the priority for me that faced with the choice: play in a tour event or get xyz increase in followers/likes. Some will go former and Grant/others will go for the latter

That to me shows how it’s not great for the game

The aim should be winning majors , having your name amongst the greats and the elite of the game

Imo it’s a sad state and maybe a picture of modern society where the aim is to get people on social media watch them play

Maybe it’s just me but I haven’t seen one single shot he has hit , same with most of them apart from Peter Finch

Their self importance as highlighted by him is staggering

But I guess that’s the world these days

Thankfully it’s Open week - the best week in the sport

I dare say having Michael Jordan, Ronaldo or Usain Bolt lining up if they were half decent would be great publicity but I bet the contracted TV company would demand they retain broadcasting rights.

What's wrong with that? As a YouTuber that would mean he's reached the pinnacle of his chosen profession. Asking a YouTuber if he wants to win a major is just pie in the sky talk anyway.
