Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

Those top players have moved across anyway

But the ET has been a “feeder” tour for a lot longer than before Pelly arrived

Top Europeans haven’t been playing consistently on regular events for decades

Montgomerie was prob the last one
You're missing the point... since KP, it's not only been the top players that have been going, it's the next level and rising stars that are going too; and it is something that has sharply accelerated in the last couple of years with 10 PGAT cards on offer.

Strongly disagree and others have said the same. It is only recently the PGA cards have sucked the very top players (Aberg, Fleetwood etc) but most are still playing the main events, including the PGA, desert swing and other events around Open time so they haven't fully left the DP at all and still need to meet RC qualification criteria. If you think Monty was the last one I'd suggest you are out of touch. Much later than that. Don't forget McIlroy was a loyal DP for a good few years whrn he turned pro before basing himself in the US

Those players would still go over to play in events and gain cards

The ET has been a feeder tour for ages - as soon as money became a major factor the PGAT wins - if it’s not aligning itself with the PGAT then even the Rolex events don’t happen , the co sanction events are stronger as well - it either changes or it just it drops even further away

What is it you expect them to do anything differently

The European Tour should have come to a deal with LIV instead.

You're rewriting history again.

The Rolex Series was announced in late 2016 (2017 season) to compete with the money available on the PGA Tour in a vain attempt to retain/attract the top players for a few more events (however, their minimums were simultaneously reduced to undermine the effort).

PGA Tour alliance came in late 2020 as KP panicked over the financial future of the tour post-Covid.

So again what is it that they do differently to stop it being a feeder tour

What’s the alternative that forces all those top Europeans , Asians , South Africans , Australians etc to play on the DP tour

It’s all well and good moaning about decisions made without offering alternatives that achieve anything different

Least someone is.

I don't get the point to make a big deal that the ball will go further.

I think they're just highlighting the implications of the thinner air and the effect that will have on distance.

Personally, I love watching golfers of any level crunch one - it's one of the most rewarding and stimulating aspects of the game. (y)

Could you actually stand there and tell the difference between someone hitting it 320 or 360 though?
I don't suppose must people could even see the ball behind 280.
And if it's just on the telly??
Whatever floats your boat I guess.

So definitely not the 1990's then

I've seen a few of the players comment on the issue being distance control - it'll be interesting to see how that pans out through the weekend and whether it actually favors the longer hitters.
It's really not much different to playing a dried out links, where the extra distance will suit some players but disadvantage others.

Phil seems to like it though.. ;-)

Do people actually care. Most courses are bomb and pitch so all the skill and shot making has gone from the game

Some courses aren’t - although if you predominantly watch PGAT events you’ll become accustomed to courses that in the main suit that type of golf.

It’s crazy that there are so few elite level tournaments on links courses to be honest.

Very few LIV courses can't be bullied either so unfair to lay it all at the PGAT door. It is one of the things about the DP tour in that there are often different types of courses where keeping on the short stuff become more of a premium.
