Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

Rory smashed a tee marker and snapped a driver last year, he's got other history as well - ripping his shirt etc.

I don't see anybody over reacting about his behaviour?

Two wrongs don't make a right. What Rory doesn't do is audibly swear often on TV and slag off host courses, if he did act up as much as Hatton he would rightly get criticised.

You make a point of mentioning your lad, a junior I think, quite a lot.
Do you think Hatton swearing out loud and smashing things is a good example?

Well my lad has had a few phases of club abusing when he's got frustrated so I'd imagine he knows exactly where Tyrell is coming from.

I'd imagine we'd hear a lot more swearing from pro golfers if it wasn't frowned upon so much - but the reality is, golf can be a frustrating game. Tyrell doesn't bottle it up whereas some others do - is he setting a good example to lead by - absolutely not, but he is showing how the game can drive you to lose your cool - yes. In that respect, if I was watching a golfer blow off steam with a few 'bad' words, or lashing out at a tee marker I'd use it to show the lad that even the top players are vulnerable to losing control of their emotions, and how to try an channel that energy in a positive manner.

Whatever the argument is here on this topic there is absolutely no way Hatton and McIlroy are comparable in how they behave on the course.

On the course, you're probably right - but factor in some of his behaviour and comments off the course and it's fair to question his attitude. McIlroy like to stir up the brown stuff every now and again - and there are lot's of occasions he's done that.

Stir up or give his honest opinion to a leading question from a reporter? Think you are letting your prejudices cloud your rational thinking :ROFLMAO:

Wouldn’t golf be boring if they all kept their cool and no player ever had a tantrum

Yeah, pretty much every sport has its characters, personalities, media darlings and wrong un’s. It’d actually be weird if golf didn’t have them too. Many of us will latch onto a personality or behaviour trait that appeals or puts us off them

But it must be winter in UK if the forum is arguing about abc player behaviours are better/worse than xyz

No

Sport is theatre. The best sporting moments are drama, unpredictability of the result, high-tension, and excellent sporting ability

I think of the 2005 and 2023 Ashes, the Cricket World Cup Final in 2019, the Medinah 2012 Ryder Cup, Euro 96, England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup final, the 1994 Hendry vs Jimmy White 18-17 World snooker Final, the five set thriller between Nadal and Federer etc…..others may think of the Champs League and the unlikely and high-drama victories of United in 99, Liverpool in 05 and Chelsea in 12

I don’t need petulant, unsportsmanlike, arrogant, childish behaviour from the protagonists to find the theatre and drama in sport…

Nadal & Federer produce grace, class, and pure sporting excellence and drama without the histrionics and bad behaviour from the likes of McEnroe and Kyrios….I'm sorry that some don’t or can’t enjoy sport without that, and I feel sorry for those people

Same I don't need it, but it's funny for the most part and when Comms says we don't need to see that kind of behaviour, when actually we love to see it😂

He is human at the end of the day and they all have emotions

The “drama and theatre” is in the way he plays the game

Sportsmen at times let their feelings and frustrations known verbally and that shows they are Human

I'd rather have the odd Tyrrell Hatton knocking about than another 50 Windham Clark / Sam Burns etc clones. 🥱
Plus all the guys who take forever to play a round.....it's a joke now, main reason I don't watch the PGA anymore, tape it for the wife who fast forwards through it, and she gets annoyed at how slow they are.

They were waiting 10 mins on some tees in Dubai, can't say it made any difference to watching on the Tele
