Today, for me, highlights why Olympic golf should be Matchplay....
60 guys out there playing..realistically only a dozen or so are in with a shout of being on the podium
What are the rest playing for?
The guys 10+ shots behind the medals......?
No money at stake
No R2D or FedEx points....just a few measly, and I mean measly, World Ranking points
Pavon is currently in 56th place....should he stay there he will be rewarded with 0.32826 points......
Should he manage to make it up to 37th spot he will get 1.01006 points....
25th gets 2.02012.....
More than half the field are wasting their time today....
Today should be 2 matches over 36 holes for the medals

100%, they should definitely mix it up for the Olympics.
For me as well, I’d rather the Countries were able to choose their own team not based on rankings, each country could choose their own criteria to decide themselves.

Or if they insist on stroke play, eliminate half the field after 2 rounds, then cut it to 12 for the last day.
They have elimination heats in most other sports.

Bit late to this debate. Although the leaderboard is stacked with big names, it’s clear that golf has not really understood the Olympics. 72 hole stroke play over 4 days 
As well as male/female singles, there should be doubles and a mixed doubles event. Better ball stroke play over 18 or 36 holes sounds good.
Proper Olympic sports give athletes the opportunity to win at least 4 medals.
They could look at different distances eg a 9 hole sprint and then longer events. Different equipment eg an event with irons only. Weight classifications are a good option too.

They are still playing for more than most of the sports. More than half the cyclists yesterday had no chance (and knew it) but still had to work hard for over 6 hours and for what? Should they have a cut after 100 miles to stop wasting peoples time?

Full Olympics coverage is on Discovery Plus. BBC only has rights to show a couple of live events at a time.
