Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

Tennis , most Olympics sports where you have to reach standard to qualify , snooker, darts - I would expect any individual sports a single sportsman or women would need to qualify

There is imo no comparison between football and golf
Interesting point that last sentence of in your opinion there being no comparisons between football and golf ! Yet a few posts back you directly asked a question about The European super league and LIV by trying to make a comparison!

So which is it there is no comparison or there is when it fits your argument!

Anyway if Canter is good enough to qualify for the PGAT via DPWT then surely that’s good enough for LIV. His choice where to go he was offered a spot and fair play to him hope he does well.

Maybe it’s time to stop the tit 4 tat about what’s better and who deserves what punishment. LIV has been around d a few years now and isn’t going away surely it’s time we’ll all accept there are now 3 Major Golf tours all with very good players and let them get on with it. 😒

When I was looking who may come through on the last day, I wasn't expecting Ballester.
Isn't it his 9th owgr counting event or something. Fair play.

Yeah - winning an event at 22 is pretty impressive. Asian Tour fields aren't mega strong but there were plenty of LIV players out there and 2x65's and 2x66's is steady, controlled golf.
Great policy by LIV/Fireballs to sign young talent - Surrat did pretty well this week as well finishing 2nd.

Good luck to him , always been a likeable bloke who seemed to find a way to play well in The Open
I recall plenty of support when he had a decent placing on an invite not long back. Good luck to him.👍

Interesting how many European golfers at the Q school - I guess a chance to play during the Euro cool months.

Details seem patchy since the re-launch, but I'd expect some kind of pathway onto the Asian tour from it.

Had some tough years with some mental health concerns so hopefully he can get some balance in his life

Not sure what happened with the Mena Tour - was supposed to be a link up with LIV which didn’t seem to happen

Full Jackanory speculation here - I wonder if that had been some indications in back room conversations initially, but when the owgr application was formally rejected, then there was a bit of a re-group. MENA didn't run in 2024, but returned this year. Perhaps with a few tweaks.

I do feel like the R&A has been a fair bit behind this move to grant more entries to majors via national opens etc., and the move the reduce (a little) the bias the US majors had with the US PGAT in 2026. The R&A are generally pushing for golf growth around the world.

LIV were looking to have their events as “part” of the Mena tour which would have given them ranking points etc but that didn’t materialise

Looks like Mena has nothing to do with LIV now and is stand alone being run by someone who used to help run ET

I’m glad to see Opens getting more importance - they imo should be looked at a lot more higher and hopefully we see the top players playing in them

I re-watched the final day of the Irish Open on Saturday.

The shout that went up when Rory sunk the eagle putt on the 18th hole must have been one of the noisiest events in golf ever.

Matt Wallace, still owgr ranked in the seventies (which highlights the owgr lag I suppose).
Zalatoris.

There are some players in that list i guess show why we haven’t heard about them for a while

Champ
Kisner
Snedeker
Hadwin

Looking at his rankings it seems he had two big jumps

He went from 150 off to into the top 100 after wining an event called the Vertex

And then another win from 90 odd to 50

no idea why the KFT are rated so highly

This is why I want them all to change

Majors

Then big Opens - Scottish , Canadian , Aus , Irish , China , Mexico , SA , Etc

Then other tour events

Then the development events

So all the major opens get the same ranking points and any other tour event gets the same as each other

Matt Wallace was pushing for a Ryder Cup place wasn't he?

The other kid I've never heard of - doesn't mean he's not a great player of course but he won't be one of the best 50 golfers in the world, so this is a case in point of the majors weakening their product because of a questionable ranking system.
I'd imagine there's a decent chance that both Wallace's and Higgs' agents have made enquiries to LIV.
