Anyone got any thoughts on where to get best value on these balls? It seems to me there are no real deals to be had on ebay or elswhere for that matter.

Depends on what you are happy playing with! You'll never get them new for less than £30 per dozen realistically, I've had mixed luck with Ebay but generally if you pay about £1.50 a ball and buy Mint or Pearl you'll usually get about 10 out of the 12 you'd play comp golf with. On occassion you get stung by someone not being honest but more often than not pearl/mint means they'd barely seen a few holes before lost and picked up, as long as the seller has good feedback for selling balls Ill take a punt. If you buy them new they'll be used after 2 holes anyway! Its just if youre comfortable using used ones, I am, as long as they look in good nick I can't imagine that there's any "loss of performance" between a new and barely used ball considering how I hit the ball (if there is such a thing and its not a manufacturers myth). I mean if I compressed and spun it like Rory maybe, but I don't.

Onlinegolf or direct golf generally are offering 2 dozen for £55. My pro shop had 2 doz for £60 offer on too. Around £30 is best price for a single dozen.

Why not try Practice Pro V1 they are pretty much new balls and ive seen those for sale from AG for £25.

you get a mixture of Pro V and X and are ok to use in comps.

Why are they called "practice balls"? What's the difference in terms of quality/feel/spin/distance etc?

From the horses mouth, regarding PRACTICE balls ..... http://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/team-titleist/f/32/t/2993.aspx

as long as they are stamped what ball they are ie Prov1 or prov1 x you are fine for comps its just X outs you can not use in comps.

Last year loads of Pratice Pro v1 went missing from the range during the Scotish open. Loads ended up all over our course and i've found loads of them and can't see anything wrong with any and even used a few in comps.
