If I was the pro, I would draw the line at what is resaleable and what is junk. He is in the golf business, he should be able to make an educated judgement based on experience.

I've just been counting up in my head, in the Poole/Bournemouth boundaries there are 7 clubs all with pro shops, a range with a well stocked shop, an AG and at least 2 independant golf shops that I know of. That is a lot of businesses competing for trade. Fair play to him if he is happy to turn away guaranteed business.

No, I didn't take the hump. Yes I didn't agree with his stance because IMHO he has turned down a valid business opportunity. If I was in his position, I would have jumped at the opportunity of guaranteed future sales. Some people on here agree with me and others don't.

It's called a debate.

if it's called a debate why are you the one calling people 'hostile'?

for the sake of a little clarity, and you mid thread sumary was a reasonable try as far as it went, you initially asked the direct question as to whether this (not handling SH goods but routing trade-ins etc via golfbidder, or similar) was becoming an increasingly normal practice.

you got early answers that yes, it was.

you then seemed to get hung up on an argument, sorry entered into a debate, about why -
1. this represented poor service
2. all pro's on retainers should put the members needs first
3. how putting your putter in his shop and selling it for you was to his benefit (money or credit is irrelevant)
4. how everybody that doesn't see it your way is missing the point

I have 2 things to add -

Not coming straight back to you with a price does represent very poor service, you never know he might actually be trying to get you your stated objective somehow - but then again the initial discussion you had with him might not have been received too well either.

If you get £100 in your hand, or as credit, for your putter you will be doing better than average - not as well as the best but a lot better than the apparent floor price. It's irrelevant to your wider argument but none the less an element in some eyes.

The way I've read this thread is d4s wants pro to stock and sell putter for £100, that money will go into his shop account to be used at a later date. D4s putter sold, pro £100 future sales, win/win scenario.

The scenario I've not seen in thread is pro stocks putter, joe blogs who has £100 in his account buys putter so pro has sold putter, no money has changed hands and he still has a member with £100 in account for future sales.
The pro would be no better off and the only winner is d4s.

Good point, not one I had considered!

Maybe he has made an educated judgement, and its not to sell your putter. And for the sake of repetition, he obviously doesn't want to do this sort of business, as so many are doing these days. Another educated judgement by him based on the direction the industry is going...
