I once owned OBR1T. Looked for a dyslexic astronaut but couldn't find one. Contacted a company who said they bought numbers but it turned out that they wouldn't buy until they had sold the registration. Finished up just selling it with the car.

That's pretty much what I'm finding, they offer to put it up for auction on their sites.

When I bought my current car, I randomly got allocated NLxx UFC. I didn't think anything of it until a few mates asked me why I had Newcastle Utd number plates. No idea if they are worth anything or not.

I was going to buy a car off one of my customers one day up until the point he said does not include the number plate

What plate is it or the estimated value? I've had much better results with eBay than sites like Reg Tranfers in the past.
A lot of the main sites will just list it and charge commission.

I used Collecting Cars - mainly an auction site for cars, but they do list 'decent' registrations - they do not charge upfront, so have to think it will sell.
They put you in touch with the buyer and subject to due diligence of course, it was easy. I gort more than expected and paid the day after the auction ended.

Slightly false memory on my part, it was the initials of my name. Just checked and the number plate is still around and in use.
Did a quick check on your comment and the letter I was restricted to use in Northern Ireland back in those days c 1970. From my memory this was because the first 2 letters denoted where the car was registered.
