Does anybody listen to their ipods/mp3s whilst practing on the range?
Rory McIlroy says he has a playlist on his ipod dedicated to power hitting on the range, I think the earphone wires would put me off but having my ipod in my pocket would probably be the most annoying part as I take everything out of my pockets to play a round.

Heh Id be the same as you, no music but then again Ive stood and watched Rory several times at our club blasting the ball up the practice area. If I thought it would help me, Id be straight in there with the tunes! :D

I quite often do this when on the range or practice ground when grooving a swing after a lesson or something. It is good for your rhythm and not over complicating things as it stops you getting too many swing thoughts in your head and seems to get me just swinging as I have been as I don't think about other things whilst listening to the music.

I like music and I like my Walkman player (note; NOT an ipod). Both together is heaven, surprising given that I'm a pro musician.

Practice to music.....NEVER!!!

Face it...if you are listening to it you are not giving 100% to your work! if you are not listening to it....why bother....

It might be a fine idea for someone who's damn near perfect just ingraining stuff....is that you???

See guys down the range with the ipod on but never given it a go. Might try it this week...see how it goes!
I prefer the acoustics of my living room, would it work the same with a ghetto blaster on my shoulder? :D

Quite often, but I haven't got a clue what I listen to, I just use it to drown out external sound. Thrash, reggae, classics, whatever, it just provides a constant sound I can tune out.

Don't all the wires and stuff get in the way? I'd find it very off-putting. Not that I've done it but it doesn't strike me as good idea as I couldn't concentrate on the shot with the Chillis blasting in my ears...

Come on then, let's have some suggestions of tunes to listen to while swinging!
Apart from the obvious "Straight Down The Middle" how about:-

"Bend Me, Shape Me" - Amen Corner
"When The Going Gets Tough" - Boyzone
"It's Going To Take Some Time" - The Carpenters
"I Drove All Night" - Roy Orbison
"The Road To Hell" - Chris Rea
"Albatross" - Fleetwood Mac
"We Can Swing Together" - Lindisfarne
"Into The Groove" - Madonna.

Always practice chipping and putting to music but never on the range, all the wires get in the way. But chipping to music, I feel, just makes the fundamentals subconscience. (Sometimes :D)

I always have my Ipod shuffle on at the range, saves having to listen to an "expert" in the next bay offering out (very bad) advice. Got a golf range music file with fairly gentle stuff on, John Legend, De La Soul etc.

If I play 9 holes on my own in the summer evenings I will wear it as well, slightly dangerous maybe but if I do get hit by a ball I'll go out listening to some cool tunes!!

No, but I use music in a different way. I play the same tunes on my way to the club usually, so I have that rather than swing thoughts when I'm playing. That way I get good rhythm and don't focus on the mechanics. It helps the swing flow. I hate it when I get a rubbish song in my head before a round though!!

I use to have a set of songs (mainly Fish and Marillion it must be said) that I'd always play before a round. I'd get one or two of them in my head and found that by singing them to myself between shots kept my mind relaxed and not worrying about my scorecard or what I needed to do with the next shot.

Not sure why I stopped (think HID's new stereo meant it was her choice or nothing - maybe 5 live for the footie if I was lucky). Now the cars older I'll try my luck again at the weekend. As I'm taking on a couple of forummers I'll see if it works (see lads got my excuses in 5 days early!)
