Posting on Facebook

But, what really worries me are people who say they get all their news off social media. For me, probably the most unreliable source of information around at the moment (not including Donald Trump). And as has been said, Facebook tailors what you watch to what you look at so you get fed with what you want to believe.

I had to have a pretty direct chat with my mum when she started sharing stuff about 'gargling salt water' and 'eating garlic' etc at the beginning of the COVID crisis. She's usually pretty good and she felt she was just being helpful as it sounded sensible!!

It is amazing what people will share, specifically stuff about if you open something then you bank account will be instantly emptied. They just share it on FB without having a quick Google, 9 times out of 10 they appear on Snopes as being complete hoaxes.

I have a 17 and 20yr old. They assure me that only 'oldies' use Facebook now . Instagram is a big one for that age as is Whatsapp, Whatsapp is the main organiser. I have never been on Instagram so I don't know how it compares. No doubt by the time I decide to sign up the young and trendy will have moved on to the next platform and leave that to oldies as well
Your kids sound similar to mine, they always say "Facebook is for old people, even Nan has it she is in her 70s".. I literally have no comeback to that ?

My Mrs uses FB a lot. I have always steered clear of it up to a couple of months ago.
Used it to catch up with old friends and work colleagues, which was great, amazing how the years go by so quickly.
I am very careful what I put on it but the majority of stuff I receive is generally good.
I can also spy on my daughters and G'Kids to see what jinks they get up to.

Instagram is just photos and videos. So like one small aspect of Facebook magnified, really. I've never really understood how it caught on given that you could already post photos on Facebook and Twitter. But then maybe I'm old now.

I think that the next big thing kicks off when the older generation move on to the latest social media platform. Kids are on Facebook, parents sign up and insist on being Facebook friends, kids can no longer post freely on Facebook so move to Instagram, or Snapchat or whatever.

Whilst I use Facebook and Twitter, I could live without either (Twitter has just become a combination of mass marketing, competitions and total lunatics). Whatsapp, however, is the easiest app I have found for group messaging etc and is really useful.

Yeah, I don't really group WhatsApp with the likes of Facebook, Instagram etc though. WhatsApp is just texting but better because you can do it in groups, and send photo messages for free and so on. I don't really see it as social media. Probably because it's not public, it's just you contacting your mates and whoever.

I've never made a mistake like that and accused a group of people of doing something they didn't, and it was Neilds who corrected and clarified your false post.

Perhaps you should try reading things properly. I said its "likely it was airmen" not that it was definitely airmen. Hence the term likely being used to show was an assumption. Neilds then replied to confirm my comment was not correct, I clarified my thinking and had some banter with them. But enjoy your high horse??

Yes the kids have moved on from Instagram to snapchat.
And now they've moved on to periscope.
And now they've moved on to tik tok.

Ditto.

We use FB as our family is far and wide across the globe, I also use it for my Aikido club. Get friend requests from all over, but tend to ignore them unless they are a close friend. However, wedge junior doesn't use FB at all, only Instagram, FB is "old hat", but it doesn't stop idiots posting stupid stuff. It is still a useful median for getting info across the globe, but we don't post anywhere near as much as we used to any more.

Only use FB for family stuff now (had a massive cull of anyone not family a few weeks ago). It's been good to help checking in with relatives across the pond etc. So much better now I've got rid of everyone apart from actual family members and don't belong to any groups etc. Keeps the noise levels down and feels very much like it did when I started using it years back.

Have a relative married to a doctor, was gobsmacked at some of the idiotic info they were sharing about Covid in the early days.

Only use FB for family stuff now , yeah the same situation. Some of you have so many followers guys! That’s cool! When I created an Instagram profile I was not popular for 3 years… I had posted quality content but usual people were not so interested in it... Not a long time ago I started to change my content and besides, found info about how to buy real Instagram followers. For me, it was a good and easy way to reach more followers in a short time. Now I have about 7k followers and I love them! U can follow me, and I will be 100% happy. But now I don’t buy them, people just understood that my content is interesting and useful :P

I deleted my Facebook account a couple of months ago now and I don't miss it at all. To be honest I was not interested in 95% of the stuff that ended up on my timeline (oh another inspirational quote taken from a Hallmark card, how interesting. Oh, another badly disguised humble brag about how well your 8 year old son is doing in school/local football team/ISIS death squad training camp, Oh another fantastic picture from your holidays where everyone is having a great time all the time for ever and nothing is ever bad and everything is fantastic. Marvelous, another racist post attempting to pass itself off as interesting comment) And the 5% was not enough reason to keep using it.
