Post round drink & grub

Re: Post round drink & grub

Years ago in Dorset the steward's wife used to make real Cornish Pasties. They were delicious.

Not possible, they have to be made in Cornwall, as does Clotted Cream. (for years the best pasties were to be found on Redruth station)

Post round, we have some interesting lagers, Red stripe, asahi etc, and ciders, so ring the changes. Menu is a bit twee at times, BLT on Ciabatta with vegetable crisps.

to be honest, it has surprised me how poor the basic bacon butty can be at some courses I have visited.

what I really like is thick, yorkshire cut bacon (with the rind on!) and sausage with brown sauce in a French stick.

Re: Post round drink & grub

I'll take Viscount's word regarding the pasties. If he's a Cornishman, he'll remember Devenish beer brewed in Redruth.

Re: Post round drink & grub

Not Cornish, but I was stationed down there twice at Culdrose.
Remember Devenish well, all their pubs were green I think. It wasn't the best beer ever but miles better than Brickwoods at Portsmouth.

For me it is a pint of cider and either a bacon and brie baguette or a bacon, sausage and egg roll with lashings of ketchup.

Reason i asked redmike where he was from was because he said 'barmcake' and that to me indicates he is probably from my neck of the woods, northwest. It is just a good old fasioned Batch that you put burgers in.

Always a pint of Carlsberg or Cider and as a group we share a very large bowl of cheesy chips and gravy. Sometimes if we are there for the night, it's Chicken Curry or Beef Roast.

I don't usually hang around as its the weekend and want to spend time with the family, if in summer and depending on my finish time I might have a couple of pints of Theakstons but as I play at the crack of dawn I usually finish about 10-11am so have a pint at the local in the afternoon boring the wife to death.

Couple of Magners for me post round and maybe a soup and sandwich combination. Always have my porridge for brekky before a round. The good old bacon on an "oven bottom" muffin, barmcake thingy is always good too.
