So gents and ladies, we have discussed baked beans at length, crisps and nuts, beer and lager. We have missed possibly the most important question to any golfer, especially the early birds like me. no, not tea or coffee.. the great debate is about to commence...

Bacon sandwich...... Red sauce or Brown sauce??

Red sauce is for sausage sarnies!! And only that.
Brown sauce is the only thing you need to put in a bacon roll/sandwich, unless you fancy a nice fried egg with it too

Tomato ketchup is 65%+ sugar. It is utterly disgusting and ruins any food. It is banned in our house. My wife gets a version from a company called Stokes in sometimes and hides it so she and our daughter can sneak it on to food when I am not around. The Stokes stuff is better but still only good for adding to a ragu sauce.

Brown sauce is great for bacon sarnies. Sausage sarnies need Dijon mustard.

brown sauces are, in effect, a mixture of ketchup and worcestershire sauce -wikipedia

Where'd you get that figure Snelly? It's plain rubbish! https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=t...8&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8

And there are 'low sugar' versions as well.

Still high, but nowhere near the level you state! And is it really that bad? Some may need to watch the Sugar 'hit' in the same way they need to for Chocolate. Banning it strikes me as a bit OTT - at least for 'normal' circumstances.

If you take Sugar in your Tea/Coffee, then you are probably having loads more than a single squirt of Ketchup - and Sucrose rather than Fructose - so I have no problem with Ketchup. I find Brown Sauce repeats a bit much for my liking - and that taste isn't to my liking.

Btw. If you realised what goes into commercial sausages, you wouldn't touch those with a barge pole! Took me 9 months to even look at one after a few weeks working in an Abattoir/Freezing Works at Uni many years ago!

Heinz Ketchup 23.7g sugar per 100g
HP Brown Sauce 23.1g sugar per 100g

If there's no choice but red or brown, I'll sometime have both, this is often met with strange looks.
But if I had to pick one, it would be brown

Brown sauce or dry if Brown not available. Never Ketchup on bacon as that's just wrong!
