I'm off to Portugal next weekend, need some advice on which courses to book - never played golf there before. I'm on my own so hopefully they accept bookings as a single... on that note, do any of the clubs have online booking systems or do I have to call Portugal?

I'm staying in Villamoura and will have a car rental so can travel a bit for a decent course.

Vila Sol, whilst not being a top course is happy to take singles, let you go round on your own (albeit usually starting you on the quieter nine) and are welcoming.

Hi plenty of good courses I have been going for 15 years

In and around VM

Must
Old Course (take HC cert)
San Lorenzo (expensive but class act)
Millenium (good mix of old and new)
Pinhal (nice starter)

If you have a car get down the N125 30 mins and get to Amoendeirra and play O'connor and Faldo both excellent - great practice facilities anf quiet - as with all of these check summer specials or tee times/ for cheapest deals

Thats six days for you - all good golf

15 years eh? You would think you may have got a grasp of the language in that time....

Muito obrigado.:D

Staying in Vilamoura, San Lorenzo should be on the list. It is in the Quinta do Lago estate which is the next one to the east after Vale do Lobo.

Vilamoura Old is OK and handy, and you could also consider Palmares, near Lagos, recently renovated to enhance the links element of the early holes.

If you are prepared to drive for an hour or so, Monte Rei, east of Faro, is the best course on the Algarve.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Just got back but only had 2 days to golf, managed to 3 rounds in. Played Millen ium on Saturday and it was ok but not great. Vila Sol on the other hand I thought was excellent, a really good layout. Played it twice Sunday!

Funnily enough I signed up to a stableford comp there Sunday am and when I got to the course there were lots of professional looking players kitted out and several coaches around. Started to get nervous about the comp... then went to the driving range and it was packed with amazing golfers. First guy I watched boom a slow rising drive about 350 down the range and I thought to myself 'WTF have I got myself in to!?'

Turned out the range was closed to everyone but the Pros who were using the practice facilities before heading to a comp in Vale De Lobo lol. I did manage to hit 1 pitching wedge on the range with pros on either side of me .. I'd say it was about as nerve wracking as the first tee box in any medal I've played in.

Anyway, great holiday and thanks again for the tips.
