Pork pies

Halfway hut. Great!

Coffee to go and a meat pasty - brill. (I hesitate to call it a Cornish pasty as the Kernovians would be up in arms - but essentially thats what they are). If you don't want to pause, then keep walking - all the more pasties for me.

I hate the halfway house. If you need food for energy for the back 9 you need to have eaten it a long time before the 10th tee. And a pork pie is probably one of the worst foods you can eat to provide a quick release of energy. It will sap energy as you digest it.

Take what food and drink you need for the round with you and crack on. In the age of combating slow play, the halfway house where you stop and sit down should be stopped. Fine if they want one that you can pick something up from as you pass.
You sound like an elite athlete ?

The problem with halfway huts and I think you allude to it with your "if you don't want pause" is if someone is haven't a grand day out and playing really well the halfway hut can be a distraction and upset their rhythm. There are some huts that you need to stop at (Sunningdale, etc) and usually I am never in contention so it doesn't bother me but what happens if someone is doing well and doesn't want any food. Does the group stop or would you foresake the food to try and help your PP keep playing well

I'm a long way from being any kind of athlete these days. But I used to be a decent 10k runner and played Ice Hockey at an almost serious level as a yoof. I also used to have a keen interest in sports nutrition and have a good friend who works in that area at an elite level.

Now I consider 4 pints and a Kebab after 5aside as replenishing electrolytes, complex carbohydrates and protein. ?

There is nothing worse after a good front 9 than arriving at the halfway house to find a group on the 10th tee, a group walking to the 10th tee and a group still sitting at the halfway House.

It's not like you can just continue either in that scenario. Especially if your playing partners want to stop.

We have excellent homemade Cornish pasties (my favorite) & sausage rolls, or you can have a bacon or sausage buttie, thankfully no pork pies ?

The fridge always has plenty of beer in it ?
They are Coventry Pasty’s next time your down here I’ll show you proper jobs and pork pies you won’t walk away from. Possibly let you try real cider as well.

If you need food for energy playing golf see a doctor.

I find halfway huts that serve anything more complex than water, cold cans, pasties that can be eaten with one hand or chocolate bars, an un-necessary interruption...even hot coffee/soup is a pain as there's no where easy to put it as you play, forcing you to stop for a few minutes whilst you consume the finger scalding beverage.

The only exception to this is at my club when it holds its annual Turkey Trot and Big Tone sits in what used to be our halfway hut, dishing out warm mince pies, homemade mulled wine and a good slosh of brandy....given its a shotgun start, everyone knows that it is tradition that you should must stop for a few minutes. The best thing is that, as it sits between the 3rd and 4th holes and the 12th and 13th, its not really a halfway hut at all...and you actually get to pass it twice during your round!!! :D

Luckily, for the other 364 days of the year its not open.

I hate Halfway Huts with a passion!

At my age I am long past being any sort of athlete as my waistline more than eloquently testifies but I am out there to play and enjoy golf not to have a meal.

Really doesn't matter if I am playing well, poorly or (on a good day) indifferently I prefer my round to be uninterrupted.

I prefer to keep moving as well. We did stop at the Sunningdale one and Blackmoor is worth a stop but aside from that, grab a cup of tea and a snack but lets keep going. It's a personal thing of course.

Agreed.

I'm afraid that I don't want the cup of tea and snack either.

Carry drink in my bag along with some sort of nuts/fruit to nibble on if needed.

Don't stop, just keep playing!

Reckon anytime I have played and there is a halfway hut the group I have been playing in has always stopped for at least a couple of minutes to pick up something , some courses have compulsory stops during Covid to help with social distancing

A good halfway hut also helps the club

But in my whole time playing I don’t believe stopping for 5 mins at the halfway hut has ever affected my game negatively - not sure why it would , it may well have helped improve it

Its a good excuse for when you have 20 pts at the turn and end up with 32 though ;) Always the pastie and not the mind lol

Had an authentic burrito whilst in San Francisco last year. The place was rammed with Mexicans. Being in America it was an American size. It was expensive and it was rammel.
