Pork pies

Pork Pies = God's food.

Especially the hand-reared ones from the Lion pub on Moorfields in Liverpool.

A bit of daddies brown sauce, mayo or salad cream as a change now and again, not too much gelatine. Mmmmm

Melton Mowbray ones are crap though.(y)

If you need food for energy playing golf see a doctor.

Why would you say that?

I eat breakfast around 8.30 - 9 by the time I get to the 10th it is about 1pm

That is most peoples normal breakfast lunch timings.

Not that I eat most of the things that have been mentioned on this thread despite loving a lot of them.

Philistine!

Having eaten pork pies in various establishments in Liverpool there is no comparison.

Sorry but Melton pies are far superior!

Liverpool = Football, Yes; Pork Pies, No.

Rubbish, the base is too hard.

In food terms Melton Mowbrays pork pies are in the top 3 for over-rated food in the world, just behind Pizzas in Rome. Hardly any topping, crap base - rested on their laurels for decades, give me a papa Johns or dominoes Uk one over a one made in a restaurant in Rome, anyday. :D

I thought as a trained athlete with a streamlined figure to maintain you would shy away from these devil foods in favour of quinoa and the like

Now I've hung up the footy boots (11-a-side ones, anyway), standards slip.

Table tennis is the new rock and roll, although you tend to lose a bit of brown sauce when you hit a smash.(y)

Pizza's home is Naples not Rome.

As for the base of a Melton pie being too hard I'm surprised.

I thought you were still young enough to have your own teeth. ?

Anyway, you Scousers eat hot pork pies. Sacrilege!

More dense than hard, a bit like me. :D

I've only ever seen them offered hot by sayers (a local greggs), which I agree is sacrilege, but most serve cold.

Separately, most scouse pies I've ever ate are fabulous, especially the bread shop on Aigburth road - note for Stu C.(y)

Had a hot one at Goodison early '70's. When I bit into it the jelly shot out all over my hand like volcanic lava.?

At least I was prepared the next time, ironically at an alehouse near Anfield.

Still not quite as bad as the deep fried meat & potato pie seved to me in an Edinburgh chippy. Really strange!

I agree, I've purchased them and been give them when playing at Melton Mowbray GC in their Opens, and they really aren't all that!

Plus, the best (and cheapest) Pizza's I've had was in Sofia when playing PFC Levski (2006 in think)

I'm in the middle of that away corner, great week over there, excellent beer and food, and cheap designer gear (y)

I'm going to throw pasties from Cornwall into that list. I had one in Padstow and it was rubbish. I had another from a specialist pastie shop a few days later to test again, different town, and it was no better. Big disappointment.

In terms of pizza, you have named American pizzas that you like. They have adapted Italian pizzas in the same way we have adapted Indian and Chinese food. I take your point though, if you go expecting one thing and get a flat alternative you feel pretty let down.

The meat pies they did on the old standing Kop where great, god knows what was in them but they were brilliant.
