What the hell, let’s bring back shoot on sight and shoot to kill!!!!! Yeeeehaww. May out, Trump in!!!
It’s ipoc now not ippcc and it’s always been allowed but now the trainings better
i think they are running scooters of the road that failed to stop rather that using it to stop ever scooter. That is some kind of ID in my book. If you run from the police you open yourself up to a chase, and then they have the right to stop you.
You're probably right but, unfortunately, the vid doesn't make the clear. Equally, its almost certainly 100% certain otherwise everyone legitimately riding one is in danger of being bumped off.
Two of them slide into the kerb. My best mate from school came off his bike in Dublin, and slid head first into the kerb. Two years in a coma and even now, 40 years later, he's not a full shilling. My gut tells me it is probably the best way to catch them. It just looks damned dangerous. But if the scroats know there's that risk, it becomes a risk they are choosing to make.
I don’t think there is a “failsafe†method to stop them - there are some horrific crimes committed by people on mopeds because I guess they feel untouchable - just seems so risky for concerned and you would hate to see someone innocent get hurt badly or a copper having to deal with it going wrong. But I don’t think there is any other way to stop them if in a chaseI can see this from both sides and can see why people don't agree with this . I personaly have no issue with this tactic as long as officers doing it are trained correctly and the correct process/ authority has been done before this tactic is done. There is always a chance in everything that happens that things can go wrong for one reason or another especially when it comes to pursuits or anything to do with mopeds, bikes or cars.
One of the problems that police face is how to deal/stop these criminals on mopeds, do we allow them to get away with the crime they are committing , or do we try and have tactics in place to try and catch them ?
To all the people who are against this tactic, what would you suggest ?
I'm a big believer in the fact that people are entitled to their own views but please if any of you have any other sensible suggestions instead of this tactic I am very interested to hear what they are ?
Brian, I'm sure that this tactic will only be used for those who have failed to stop, and in order to fail to stop you first have to have to be given ample opportunity to stop. If you're signalled & pull over you're in no danger.
I am all for this initiative too. On the interviews the police said they do it at very low speeds, mostly less than 15 mph I think, so the chances of serious injury of involving innocent bystanders is reduced.
I hear it has already contributed to a 40% reduction in moped crime in the City, so great that they are publicising it too if it puts more of those little shits off pursuing a life of crime.
There is some theory that the punishment as deterrent doesn't make much difference. Look at the death penalty.Excellent post SJ, the bottom
Line is that moped crime has dropped 40% from Its peak, and were this tactic not employed it would of got worse not better from a statistic point of view. Also think that it is an excellent deterant.
So is being tough on crime the answer. Or is it just being tough on moped crime where we have to be heavy handed. personally I Would like think that our punishments for crimes committed were actually part of the deterant.
Am not sure it's the actual catching people the sole reason for the reduction. Think the fact moped gangs know there is a response to there crimes is a deterrent as well. There is some theory that the punishment as deterrent doesn't make much difference. Look at the death penalty.
But the moped bumping is not a punishment, it is catching people that often got away. Catching more people is a better deterrent than a harder punishment.
That's what I meant, maybe worded it badly.Am not sure it's the actual catching people the sole reason for the reduction. Think the fact moped gangs know there is a response to there crimes is a deterrent as well.
I wouldn’t bring up any child to be a thief with no respect for others property and safety.Would you still be if it was your son and he got killed due to these actions ?
