Plodding on....... When really you want to walk off.

I'm not getting this.

You have an unofficial handicap of 16. You play with the handicap secretary and play to 20.....where's the disaster?

Most people won't play to their handicap every time they play. Take a look on the HDID website, and have a look at some competition scores. I think you expectations are whey to high.

4 over handicap........you might as well throw your clubs away now. :p

I suppose your actually being realistic. The fact i have been shooting low teens without losing a ball, and in this round i dropped 8 shots (playing 3 of the tee 4 times) it wasnt that bad a score, would have been 12 over ish. Ok the main point here is would haves and could haves, the main thing for me way that the game was just our of charactor. That said no i dont expect to have great games every game, it was just a bit of an extreme against recent scores on longer tracks.

Well, that sounds like the real golf I know.

The other thing you will soon notice with real golf, is that there is only one kind of luck. Bad luck. During the week, you hit a tree, it comes back out on the fairway. In real golf, it pings off into the bundu never to be seen again.
You will find divots in the middle of the fairway with your drives, have bad bounces galore, putts that jink off when 2" from the hole (even had a putt the other day, dead centre of the cup, hit the plastic cup edge and bounced back out of the hole about 1ft in the air). Bad stuff happens in medals that just doesn't at any other time.

I'm not a big fan either.

pro V's already! definitely overambitious :p

and if you kept the noodle what does that say to you?

it tells me the noodle was one i found while looking for the last lost pro v,

and the pro v, it tells me im gutted as it had done 2 rounds and about 4 holes before it bounced into the land of no return where robin hood sleeps....

Rgdave, 32 points?

:) Close, but no cigar.

I was on 32 points on the 17th tee. Took my 5 wood, pulled it 15 yards left, kicked off the shoulder of the left bunker straight OOB.
Parred the last for a 4 nett 3....35 points.

I am missing the point of all this i think.

How many more excuses can you fit into one thread? Who's fault was it really? You are allowed only one:

The ball
The hard greens
The h'cap sec's presence
The slow group in front
Your back
The scruffy course
The driver

Or was it down to the fact that you may have found the level you should be starting at anyway? Jumping the gun a bit to think that you are going to romp your first comp and be labelled as a bandit.

the truth is from the swing on the first nothing felt totally right all day and i play like a cock failing to deal with all of the above factors. My driving and chipping is normally my strong point, but yesturday with the exception of about 3/4 decent shots nothing clicked.

thanks rob, you know how to cheer a person up. even my efforts round Bishop's Stortford weren't that bad. two rounds scraping around 22-25 points and a rash from some weed in the rough off the 2nd.

If is giving you a rash you really should stop smoking that stuff..........

Ok mate, keep this thought in your head. The difference between h'cap levels on the way down is the ability to scab it round but still put a decent score on the board.

Your best shots are no different to my best shots or someone off scratch, it's just that our misses aren't as bad and we can find a way of getting it done. Expecting to hit it like a god every time is pie in the sky sadly.

Not sure I would be too bothered about having 20 ish as my first official handicap.

Wish I still was off 20 sometimes!

Look at it this way if you can genuinely play off 16 you will soon get cut, plus you will have the chance of winning a few things while you get down 16.

By young, do you mean she is under 60?

Definitely.
26, very (very) pretty and goes by the name of Kirsty.
Giving her a demo tomorrow.
I'll carry on talking about the other holes this evening.
;)

Smiffy

Have I got this right, :D :D

tomorrow you are taking Kirsty a 26h/c who is 6'4'' tall to Nizels to demonstate to her how to get your balls out of a hole.

Bloody hell no wonder you had 11 blobs. :D :D :D

I far from expect to hit everything like a god, and as refered to in the flushers thread, there are normally very fex shots you can come away from with 100% satisfaction. but on a normal round miss hit or off shots arent no where near as bead as yesterday. My miss-hits were major, major beginner style errors, head up majors tops etc, not just directional.

Generally alot of my shots lacked power yesterday, it was almost as if my swing had lost tempo, and i think if im honest this was just the start of things.

As i said in this thread somewhere else, move on, deep breath sunday is another day, 50-100 balls down the range saturday afternoon and confidence should be back up again.

to be fair its done me a favour, over the last 6 weeks ive been playing some good golf and a reality check doesnt hurt. If your playing great golf or what you think is great gold for your level of play and things seem to be happening to easy then the reward for them rounds is shallow. As a rule im normally a player who will have range sessions once or twice a week with atleast one game a week. recently range time has suffered, and one round a week has been the normal, sometimes one round every 10 days.

Range time up, practice time up, effort in should equal reward.

Oddsocks I'm confused. You have an unofficial H/C of 16 and your 'bad' round was over this.
Why not go 3 rounds with the H/C secretary to get your 'official' H/C.
A bit of pressure will probably give you 3 'bad' rounds!
Now you can relax with a 21 H/C and see it come down to 16 and below
