I went to my club late morning with a plan to practise my chipping for an hour or so and ended up being roped into a game with two young newly turned pro's and a four handicapper. 9 shots in hand, I and one of the new pros cleaned up and I have to say that they were all great company (I did know them all quite well) and it certainly helped me to concentrate more and play well.

I did actually achieve the longest drive of the 4 of us, on stroke index 1, and a 6 iron onto the green later from the middle of the fairway, and a half with the 4 handicapper, I was well pleased.

Do you play with guys much lower than you and do you enjoy it - I for one had a great afternoon!

I9play every now and again with the same lad off 2......He doesnt mind who he plays with and he has a great manner about him....The reason i like playing with him is that he gives me a lot of confidence and his game seems to rub off on mine a little.....I nearly always play well when he plays with us.

He compliments my game a lot and says that i have the game tro get low one day and that i do a hell of a lot of things right for a 16 handicapper....

Iv yet to meet a low player thats an ass though....Iv played with the odd one or 2 that stay quite while they are playing and keep to themselves but they are in no way ignorant....
I like to think that they are just concentrating on there own game.....Also they are mainly the only ones that i would take advice from....Most seem to know what they are at.

I can see why some get intimidated by them but it doesn't affect me in the slightest when playing a round with them. You can learn a lot through 18 holes with a good single figure player.

Most of the guys I tend to play with are a similar handicap to me or no lower than 12. There are a couple of lads at my club who are low handicappers but I don't like playing with them mainly because one of them has a massive ego and has no problems saying things like "I'm not surprised you got X amount of points, you play off X handicap" that comment was aimed at my friend who was playing off 24 at the time. The other one is just boring, hits his shot, picks up his bag and charges up the fairway, no chat, no banter, nothing.

Throughout the summer there are about 6 or 7 of us who go out on a Friday night, one of which is our pro. I always play well when I'm paired with him, he's a great laugh too and tends to not take things too seriously.

Other than that I stick to the mid-high handicappers on competition Sunday.

I have played a round with a Pro before and also somebody who played off 1. The thing I found out more than anything is it shows you how Crap you really are:) also it can teach you about how to put a score together and where their shots are saved against yours.

I thought that I held my own quite well and all 3 were really nice guys anyway, there was some good banter and they, in no way looked down for the odd bad shot. I took a little longer over each shot and got the odd birdie. I would be very comfortable to play in that company any day of the week

Did you find yourself doing anything different to what you normally do Chris...
I find that i dont rush things as much and seem to really think things out before going through with the shot.

Love playing with low handicap players. Shows me where I lose so many shots in my game(my short game). One of my regular playing partners is off 10 and is always willing to help me out and another I have just started playing with more is off 7. I hit the ball longer than him but his short game just blitzes me every time.

Yes, I took a few seconds longer over each shot and swung slower and got better rhythm, on the downside I didn't chip and putt so well as i was working on some changes.

Dont you find that they dont worry about what you do and arn't judgemental?

I agree with all the above....I find that they are very encouraging towards me.....I think that if you show any interest in the game and getting better it really helps their judgement of you.

I dont think that they would bother if you were just out to hack around and have a laugh.
I seem to have much better rhythm too why i play with them.

I personally think you can learn something from every golfer you play with BUT you tend to find that with low handicap players, from 100 yards in they are deadly.

Having said that, I saw some of my mates on the course and just got a text asking if I was babysitting! perhaps I shouldn't have text him and said that it was time that I elbowed the usual dross!

The group i play in I'm usually the highest handicapper by about 5 shots. Always brings the best out in me, shame the last few Medals I've been drawen with what Bomber69 would call Chompers:)

I will happily play with anyone and to be honest don't find it much difference. I frequently seem to get picked against low handicappers in our club matches and hold my own. We've a couple of low guys and as long as the banter is there I will do my own thing. They do tend to be quite giving with their time (not in comps obviously) and often give a simple pointer here and there which helps. Short games are usually to die for and they are fearless holing out from 3 foot

One of the best rounds I had, was on one of are local courses. I was playing on my own and caught up with two guys in front. They ask me if I wanted to play though or I could play round with them. I chose to play with them. Their game was pure magic and dragged me up, to play the rest of the round four under par (the best I have ever played). Anyway after the game put my gear away went and had a drink. Then called in the Pro shop to pick up some bits (it was closed when I arrived). The two guys were in there. Turns out I had just played with the Pro and his assistant. Neither of them had said who they were on the course.

playing with them is great. the worst they do is a bogey. awsome driving and they play very controlled shots into the green. never fully flighted wedges a mile in the air. as someone said. you always learn something from them!

Don't get to play with lower handicaps very often, I think there's only 4 or 5 lower than me at the club.
The GM Centenary bash at Hanbury and the PowerPlay at the Grove saw me grouped with 3 handicappers.
Played like an arse so it obviously doesn't do me any good.....

I think one of the most impressive things was that the young pro I partnered, got up and down from every bunker even though they were very wet due to the constant drizzle we played through.

I love playing with low handicap players. A joy to watch.
The ones I don't like are the youngsters who bomb it absolutely miles and swing at 200mph.
You end up trying to swing that little bit faster to keep up with them (some hope!) and the game goes to pot.
