I have got three rounds lined up fro this weekend fri,sat & sun , two being comps and the other practice. now i have got "golfers" tendonitis in my left arm , , i have rested it for a week and still aches slightly , has anybody got any ideas of how to play through it. or is it just keep taking pain killers and ibrofen (wrong spelling sorry)

Man up and get out there!

Nah seriously, if you don't rest this sort of thing properly it can keep getting worse. I know it's nice weather and conditions ATM but it will be nicer in a couple of weeks time. I've had 3 weeks off myself thanks to a bad back, playing today now the pains completely gone.

If your determined to play through it though I recommend co codamol, strongest over the counter stuff, or if you can get hold of any, codine is the nuts.

I played three rounds in 36 hours at Wentworth last week in a reunion with some old rugby pals before going to Twickenham. Was carrying a strain in my right calf before we started and by the end of the third round was crippled! Obviously playing with any injury is going to make it worse.

My excuse was that I wasn't going to miss the opportunity to play Wentworth and as the ex front row forward in the fourball I had to maintain the honour of the front row union.

My advice would be to play the comps but leave out the practice round in the hope you can minimise the strain and get through without too much pain and further damage.

Recommend Ibuprofen and a Ralgex or similar spray but they only mask the problem they don't cure it.

I wouldn't bother playing. If you damage a tendon it'll take ages to heal properly.

My dad had golf induced tendonitis and had a steroid injection into his elbow which was "f******g excruciating". It did help with the pain though, eventually. It still took quite some time for it to be right again.

I take ibuprofen but a max of two per game. I heard last year, third hand, of an ex-colleague who had severe arthritis and took a lot of ibuprofen and his kidneys packed in. I went to see my doctor and told him I was taking two a day four times a week and he said that was a small amount. He sent me for a kidney check (blood test) and it was all normal. Like everything in life, anything in small doses is OK.

The other (odd) thing I have noticed over the past 15 years of taking ibuprofen for a range of various tears and strains is that it doesn't seem to do any further damage or aggravate the situation i.e. the ibuporofen kills the pain and I play with the injury but it doesn't make the injury worse or affect the recovery time.
