we played a foursomes tie the other day and the better player lined up all his partners putts and iron shots from behind, he didn't move away from behind once the player was about and hitting the ball and stayed there on all of them

i was under the impression this wasn't allowd so didn't say anything. I know caddys on the LPGA have now been prevented from doing this, in that they have to move away once lined up, not sure if this is the case with PP??

Not allowed. Either partner can help each other in the same way a caddie can, but they cannot act in ways a caddie would not be allowed to act. The following is copied from Rule 22:

A partner and his or her caddie may help the other partner in any way that the other partner's caddie is allowed to help (such as to give and be asked for advice and take the other actions allowed under Rule 10), but must not give any help that the other partner's caddie is not allowed to give under the Rules

We got done for that in our betterball match. My partner wasn't even helping me line up the shot by standing there, he literally just happened to be stood behind me while watching my shot, and our opponents called a two shot penalty on us. I didn't even know he was standing there let alone using him to line myself up.

So yeah, the partner/caddy has to move away before the player takes their stance or else it's a penalty.

these two did this one every shot and every putt delib, wasn't sure of the rule and my playing partner didn't want to raise it

But wait until penulimate hole for your surprise.....
I wouldn't do that. The player MUST tell the opponent about that penalty as soon as reasonably possible. So, if you kept it to yourself for the first 16 holes, you can't then penalise them for those 16 holes at the last minute.

This sentence confuses the hell out of me.

You didn't say anything because you didn't think it was allowed? Do you ever bring up rule breaches?

only if i know 100% they are wrong, i wasn't sure what they were doing was allowed it was apretty sour match against a right pair of jeremy's, my PP wasn't sure either in fact he thought they were allowed to do it, is that OK ?

Why didn't you consult the rules at the earliest possible opportunity? You have a duty to everyone else in a competition, even if they aren't directly involved in your match at that point.

You didn't say that in your original post. In fact, the post said you didn't do anything. You should have consulted the rule book, or the rules app on your phone, or looked up the rules on your phone, or spoken to a member of your party to see if any of them had access to this information. But no, you say you did nothing.

didn't have a rule book or phone, nor did my pp, we looked after.... thanks for your concern though:rolleyes:

no one suffered because of this but us... fyi it was the semi final

As chrisd says, he doesn't have a duty to protect everyone in the field in a match play competition. It's one of the reasons why some rules differ between stroke play and match play, for example, playing off the wrong tee box. In Match Play, you can protect your own interests.

You think it's morally right to leave this up to the opposition of these two chancers in the final, when you already believe that they're breaching such a potentially game changing rule?

who says i am, rather than jumping in with both feet try reading all the posts, already said i will be informing their next oppo, no point in reporting to the comittee, he's on it, also checking out a handicap discrepency, we checked his handicap before the comp his was off 12.4, on the day is was 12.5, didn't play in the comp the day before or the any of the comps that week. I overheard him say to his partner, that he hadn't played in a comp fpr weeks.

I'd suggest that, morally, you also have a duty to inform the offenders!

It's your own daft fault that you weren't in a position to challenge them in your match, but only informing their next oppo seems like sour grapes to me!
