Playing my 1st game since injury tomorrow

not really played ruxley 2 times shot a 88 then a 98 but nothing since then .. baby is due soon so staying close to home in next few weeks. considering the ridge my self later on in the year as i wanna start playing competetively!

MVP & MWJ (do I need a 3 letter name?)

I am a new member at thr Ridge. I joined on their Silver scheme which entitles me to 7-day membership on a greenfees basis i.e. I paid £125 for the year which gets my membership, allows me to play in comps and gets me an official handicap, I just pay a reduced greenfee when I visit. Weekends are £24 for visitors, but I pay £17.

This suits me as my time for golf is not as much as I would like (who's is?) and I can't justify a year's membership fees to only play twice a month.

Anyway, good luck tomorrow john and maybe see you up the Ridge some time or even at the Range in Chatham.

Cheers
Molly

Youll have to be MFR molly from rochester hahhaha.

i might do that silver membership for now seems a good idea!!

MFR - very good!

Have you been to the Ridge since Mike Stoner and his family took over? They are spending good money improving everything - the course, the clubhouse, the food (much better now!) and the website. There's an added bonus of the affiliated courses as well - you play for free as a full member or pay reduced green fees a silver.

Anyway, where do you play at the moment? Do you belong to a society?

Had a long chat with Mike recently and what he said impressed me hugely hence why I will be taking full membership at the ridge.

I was previously a member at Gillingham until recently but the place is in the dark ages, run by a few, for a few, I wont bang my drum about it again but I had enough so cancelled.

What are the affiliated courses BTW? He did say but my mind is a blank.

Bugger - can't remember the members logon for the website, otherwise I could get the list of all 14 clubs. Ironically, I know that one of them is Gillingham Golf Club :o)

I havent been to the ridge for a couple of years but it was where i first started playing about 6 years ago now. I love the course!

just recently left my club fawkham valley. Not jumped into joining the ridge as moneys tight at the mo so just playing pay and play at the moment.

Would definately love to join as a full member if i can promise myself the time to make the most of it.

ahhh, Fawkham Valley - our spiritual home!

We (Istead Rise Golf Society) play at Fawkham every November for our end of season do. Big Breakfast courtesy of Julie and the girls, 18 holes visiting the halfway house 4 or 5 times for that spiritual stuff i mentioned, then evening meal and a putting comp in the lounge. Brilliant fun. Love the place.

Why have you left?

to be honest i like it there the members , competition, staff are all decent people. 2 things what i didnt like about it and ill be honest here.. i am absolutely crap there i play at cobtree poult would west malling ...the ridge...and i play good golf. At fawkham i have never had a half decent round at that club for the year i was a member.. propbably becasue the ball is above my feet or below them on every shot.
secondly its 9 holes. when i tee off early get round the first 9 then see the course is rammed only to play the same holes again.. it just got on my nerves most weekends. I dont mind going back to play there its id rather a different and 18 (w)hole course. also its a bit far away for the quick 9 holes after work for me. Other then that liek i said its a nice friendly club.

MVP - I can understand what you're saying about the course being rammed. We have it closed as we bring 40+ people along and have a shotgun start, so never the problems you describe. We also only play once a year. The Ridge is a great substitute mate ;o)

MWJ - here's the 14 clubs on the golf network....I have played woodlands, but none of the others.

Woodlands was good but it did have a hole that was on such a steep gradient that it was a bit mickey-mouse.

Ahh...the famous Eiger! Nightmare 10th hole with a 1 in 1 gradient. I think it's about 150 off the whites, but you hit anything from 7-iron to 4-iron hoping it doesn't fall short and return to your feet or go too long over the shallow green. Par is like a birdie here.

I like the Par 3 hole that goes over over the road - tee is well above the green, but the only trouble is if it drops very short on to the road (foooooore!) or into the hedge. Haven't played there for a couple of years since our society last visited.

Playing Sunday at the Ridge. Hoping to get the swing going well in time for our weekend away to Dunston Hall - 54 holes individual and a Ryder Cup style team game. I did the double last year, winning the individual and finishing on the winning team. Can't wait!

Society handicap of 15. I have not yet put 3 cards in at The Ridge to get a proper one. I reckon it's fairly accurate for the amount of golf I play. Would love to be lower, but not enough free time. Got a 2 yr old girl at home and another one in the slow cooker...due in July.
