Playing in the rain

I genuinely couldn't give a monkeys. I like having the course to myself and it's good practice. It's a different challenge in the rain

My first comp tomorrow, my partner says she doesnt like playing in the rain and is not keen to start if its raining. If it starts during the round she will continue. So I am hoping for it being dry at 10 am, rain is forecast from 1pm, so hopefully we will be lucky. I will be there regardless of any rain.

Dont mind the rain at all and will play even if its lashing down. Its the wind that does my head in but that might be because i havent got much experience of playing in proper windy conditions and havent learned how to adapt to it.

I was not due to play a couple of weeks ago as it was my wifes birthday and we were going out for lunch. It was raining at 8.30 when our group tees off and they all stood in the clubhouse saying 'Well, Mark would go out' I think I may have a reputation.

In the past when I only played a few times a year, I knew I had to play or miss out for months.

If its a comp or a match then I'm happy to go out in the rain. Really can't see the point in a social setting "just because". If it starts once we're out there then thats difference. It might just be a mental attitude thing. If its really bad I'd rather decamp to a range and spend a constructive hour working on my game rather than four playing and not enjoying it

Unless its a real downpour I will still head out if I am with someone. Had more than a couple of rounds last year that we started in the rain and within 2 holes it was bright sunshine. I would probably think twice if I was playing solo though.

However also had a couple of rounds that were so heavy rain we had to abandon the game - holes were brim full and a small lake on the green.

as has been said. i play golf to enjoy it . and i dont enjoy being wet and cold with a soaking golf bag.

That's terrible, truly.

I don't like playing in the rain and if it were a social game would have no problem not playing provided I wasn't leaving anyone who wanted to play on their own.

A pairs competition though, I would never let anyone down if they wanted to play, and if someone did it to me I wouldn't enter anything again with them.

"Relax the dress code rules"... Seems to be the standard answer to getting more players out on the course... Can't think of anything better than playing, in jeans, in the pouring rain... [No, never tried it myself ]...

played in the peeing down rain and howling wind today.......I was the only one in our swindle of 9 that entered the medal........managed to keep a double bogey off the card but way too many bogies and ended up 5 over H/C.....putted really well but nothing dropped.......still enjoyed it though.......love playing in the rain..........

results just in.....won the medal with the lowest gross and made buffer!!!!!

Only 4 players submitted cards in the end, but I'll still get a nice little voucher for my troubles.......and very satisfying to make buffer in those conditions.......

Sun, wind, rain makes no odds to me as I'll go out there and play, god knows I've paid enough for all the gear!

I played in a board comp last year and boy did it rain but I was fine as I was well wrapped up but the klaxton went off when we were on the 15th as the greens were starting to hold water and everyone had to walk in. One hell of a row ensued after as a couple of lads were having a cracking round but it didn't count as it had to be played again at a later date.

Four of us played on Wednesday afternoon, only one of us enjoyed it...................me!
The back nine was just constant rain & a blustery wind that actually killed one of our umbrellas.
Why did I enjoy it? I enjoyed it 'cos it was a laugh & it was golf & it was a real challenge.
Oh, and I scored 41pts off 18 and played the last 10 holes in 3 over par!
Quick word of warning though, if anyone uses a TM Burner Superfast driver, beware............at the first hint of dampness the grip turns into an eel, almost impossible to keep hold of...........hilarious.
Rain or wind..........I love playing golf (well)!

Doesnt really bother me, I have various rain/windproof tops and trousers (not a suit) that do the job pretty well. the main thing though is the MacWet golves, dont need to bother with keeping stuff dry as you just keep them on!

These gloves are the absolute key to good golf in the wet! Well, it is for me! Don't need a towel, grips can get as wet as they like.

Not getting cold is very important too.

I use latex surgical gloves myself... Everybit as good performance as Macwets and similiar from FJ...
Just a very low score in the looking cool stakes ...

Played on Thursday in a deluge of heavy rain for the first 6 or so holes. The bunkers were flooded with water to the point we were using rakes to fetch the balls out. Most of the greens had standing water at least in parts as well as most of the fairways being sodden. When the ball landed there was a definite splash. In all honesty if it hadn't been a Society day we wouldn't have gone out. On the other hand we couldn't believe that the course was open.

I have a Peter Storm walking jacket, some waterproof trousers from Decathlon and Dunlop shoes. Somehow I was dry underneath. Miserable as sin for the first few holes but once the sun came out it was okay. Not playing any bunker shots was also a relief.
