A comment on another thread mentioned that people shouldn't be playing golf for fun, which had me thinking; am I the only one who plays for fun?
what is this NEW THINKING rubbish coming from, sounds like one of those tree hugging types,my idea of FUN is doing something i enjoy even if i do it badly i dont need some mumbo jumbo to explain it to me,GOLF is a FUN game and if you take it to serious to cause you to get annoyed PACK it in a do something else.On the New Golf Thinking day there was a good section about this which really hit home with me. The gist of it is that there is nothing wrong with playing for fun, but if you do that then make sure you do it in a nice sunny country with some good mates and can have a nice meal afterwards. As it is difficult to play for both fun a lot of the time but also expect to improve that much.
This was a problem I had as all my games are friendly games and not comps, and I am in golf to enjoy myself. So as soon as I mess up up a hole I'd kind of not worry too much about things and not really concentrate as much as I should. But it was pointed out that I need to focus a bit more on thinking about my shots etc etc if I want to improve. Of course I still intend to have fun and I imagine there will be games on golf weekends where I have emptied a hip flask or two where fun is the name of the game. But I will be focussing more on trying to score better from now on.
It's all Fun! whether it's casual fun, practice fun or competition fun, or serious (competition) fun!
When it gets too serious, it's time to re-assess why you are doing it!
