Southern USGA are ditching the 18 hole play off format and replacing with a 2 hole aggregate - whatever that means...
What's the best play off format?
I like the Open way. 4 holes then sudden death.
Opinions?

Anythings better than the current US Open 18 hole play off on the Monday. 2 hole is ok - two 4s beats a 4 and a 5, that's all it means. 2 holes allows it to happen faster and without an absolute fluke (think Larry Mize), US summer daylight doesn't go on until 10pm like here.

They can send the last group out at 14:30 and still have plenty of time for four holes if they had any backbone. Don't think two holes is enough personally but happy they are changing away from 18 holes

Sudden death on the 18th hole repeatedly makes it easy for TV and spectators at the event.

Our own club championship has a 4 hole play off (1,2, 15 and 18) followed by sudden death over the 1st and 18th.

It does make a bit of sense to get this finished on the Sunday, but seems strange to make the decision now when there hasn’t been a playoff for 10years.

personally quite enjoy the thought of getting a Monday playoff as the viewing times in the UK would probably be ideal in the early evening.

I've enjoyed the ET system used this year on occasion where they replay 18 (twice I think) as sudden death then if still tied change the 18th into a par three for sudden death

Better for spectators and gets rid of repeatedly doing the complete hole

They have had 72 holes to win it the hard way - sudden death is as good as any method of resolving tied scores.
Holes as appropriate to suit the course but replaying the 18 until a result is obtained is as practical as anything else, and works for most parties too.
