Anybody tried one yet?

I'm currently playing with a 8.5 Titleist 905s with a stiff shaft and thinking of a change as im just not as consistent as i'd like to be with it. Bad shot is weak fade / mega slice.

So i went down the local range for a fitting... 10.5 k15 stiff and couldn't believe the difference. (never tried G10 or G15 so cant compare)

Cant comment for sure on distance as only used on the range but it wasn't lacking in that department (felt a bit shorter than my 905), high flight as expected and overall very impressed.
After a couple of different shafts most shots were towards the target line and confidence grew.
Keen to take one out on the course when they come out in a couple of weeks.

Anybody else tried one? Thoughts?

First post btw :) so Hi....

Jim
H/C 10.

Tried it at a Ping Demo day in a 10.5 regular shaft. I thought it was a piece of cake to hit but looked horrid behind the ball. Flew too high for my liking but ideal for most mid-high handicapper which is its designated audience. Definitely worth a go if you are looking for a new driver. If you look at my Ping demo day thread there is a fuller write up

I was offered either the K15 or the I15 at a Demo day last week, and my instinct was to go for the I15.

It's better looking, and a good strike really flies off it.

But the K15 is designed to get more shots in play.

So after much umming and ahhing, ( and 90% of opinions on here suggesting I go with it ) I've ordered a K15 with a regular shaft ( swing speed of 90mph apparently ).

Yes it's an ugly begger, and I didn't overly enjoy swinging it, and it was a little shorter than the I15, but it was straighter, so I'm willing to bite the bullet and see if the results follow the spiel. If the results follow on the course, you can bet I suddenly find it 'querky' and a 'gem' to swing.

Watch this space.

:D

Good luck with it Clive.

You know it makes sense :D

Golfmmad.

It makes sense - but I'm not convinced it's going to be as succesful for Ping as it could be if they made it with a bit more of the 'wow' factor.

I should get it sometime next week, so I'll hopefully have it in time for Chartham Park. Then everyone can laugh at me when I start spraying it all over the shop.

:o

BTW I'm not convinced it's going to be the best club for a 10 handicapper, but it's definitely worth a go, coz the anti slice switch on the hosel does work to a degree. And Ping are fantastic people.

In your shoes, and seeing the results some have with it, I'd also suggest trying something like the Callaway FT-iQ or even the FT-iZ, just to compare and contrast.

If you previously scrape by with a 905 8.5 degree, then the K15 is an enormous change, and there will be a world of drivers available that may offer less slicing but more control. Almost anything else with 10.5 degrees loft, for a start. Note also that the 'stiff' shaft in the K15 is almost certainly whippier than the stiff in the 905, so that is having an influence too. The K15 is designed for, hmm, how can I put it, ... complete duffers.

If I was you, I would also look at a 909D2 10.5 with Voodoo Regular.

Cheers for the feedback...

I'm going to go back and have a look at the G15 and the 909d2 and also try maybe a callaway. The more I think about the k17, yes it was straight but its the flight im not sure about. seems to just drop out of the air. I dont want to sacrifice distance too much. Also i wonder how the ball would behave in a head wind as the flight seemed high and weak to me... too much so.
Also half an hour with the pro wont do any harm to sort the swing out.

I'll go back up tonight... love shopping for new gear

:)

Should I not consider it then? I chop and change between a spine and a benny. the benny pips the spine for distance, but the spine is straighter....I did wonder if the K15 might mix the two rather well.

PS, I don't miss many fairways, but that's easy to achieve given I use high lofted drivers that max out at 240-250, unless I'm on a links.

went back the range earlier and gave the G15 a wirl.
Loved it.

Went for the 10.5 stiff in the end and will be playing with it sat morning.
great looks, weight, feel, sound... the flight was ace unlike the k15 and went where I pointed it (mostly) with a lovely draw on it.
I took my 905 with me to compare and I really couldn't believe the difference, different league. Wish I'd done this ages ago
:)
just a shame its coming to the end of the season.

I am officially a PING convert.... cant see me swapping my AP2's tho.

It's a super game improvement club, replacing the Rapture. The Rapture was a perfectly good club not just used by duffers.

I think it's worth considering, but if I were paying for it I'd also try other manufacturers. I was expecting the G15 to be for me, but Morgan, the Ping guy, said straight away that the G15 gave me too much backspin.

He also said that the K15 will be used by single figure handicappers as well as high handicappers.

I'm confident that the club will do what it's designed to do.

What I'm not totally convinced about is whether it will do it any better than my Benross, which is half the price.

I'll let you know soon

Not sure the K15 irons would be used by single figures (although prepared to be proved wrong) as they are typically chunky in the old Ping way and a all about maiximum forgiveness and getting the ball airborne. The driver though, with the right shaft could suit most players and is a doozy to hit

Ah, so a rapture replacement. I play with a chap (off 16) who uses a 10.5 rapture and he puts my driving to shame even when I hit 80%. Must be magic.

I'm tempted by a Ping, but my experience with a G5 with (probably) the wrong shaft has put me off a bit. Whatever I do, it's got to include the use of a LM/trackman so I can really know what's going on.

I have one

a 10.5 Regular shaft £199 from Wexham Park, Slough (£50 off RRP)

Its a lovely club to hit, definately seen an improvement overall, my standard path is a weak slice with the odd MEGA slice thrown in.

With the K15 the weak slice is now pretty straight and the MEGA slice is reduced too.

Distance is about 15 yards further than the current Ping Rapture 13 1/2 loft

So it seems to do what it says on the tin, need a few more rounds to fully evaluate, but initially im happy with it.

Fragger

You're not supposed to be able to see the weight bulge on the heel when looking down at address.

Well I can and it looks like there's something stuck to the bottom that's going to hinder your swing.

Do they really need this K series?
The G series is for higher handicappers and the I series for better players. I know there's some crossover but that's how they're designed. The Rapture line that the K's have replaced were top-end clubs - serious money and a composite construction so very different from the G's.

Just can't see the point of the K's.
