Picked this up from another golf site I frequent;

Speaking to a PING touring pro last night over dinner and he told me that the PING i20 iron is going to be something different next year to previous offerings.

His belief is that the success of the S56 on Tour has lead to the development of a "midsized" version which will be badged as the i20. He also said PING has been dissapointed with the response to the i series since the success of the i5's and beleives that a midsized players iron will be what its rank and file will want.

Larger than the i10 but smaller than the i5's - A midsized S56 with a bit of sole weighting he reckons it will be. There will be no G20 as the K15 is selling like mad apparently - PINGS offerings will be in irons, S56, i20 and K15 in 2011.

Definately something for everyone I think!

Mike H, have you heard anything from your end that can confirm or deny this line up???? I'll hold off my S56 upgrade until the i20 hits the headlines if thats the case. Launch date???

Oh and another thing that Ping have added to the i20 (apparently) which I did hate about the i5, i10, and i15 is a ferrule. That will really sweaten the look of the iron. Couldn't really understand why Ping didn't do this to their "i" range.

I've read September for the new 20 range?

Noahs Ark in Perth have a demo day on 15/8/11 but I don't know if this is just for the G20 or just how it's been advertised and the full range will be available to try?

I read the same article this morning mate ,the g20 look a lot chunker on the sole compared to theg15,couldn't find pictures of the i20 tho.

The s56 look a really nice club is there much difference to the s57?

stevek i asked the same question about if the s56 were similar to the s58 which i used to own and got told by a couple of golf pros that there wasnt really any difference at all if you could use the s58 you can use the s56 apprently an that was good enough for me

I think the issue Ping have is that they never really improved on the i5.

The i10 were clearly harder to hit than the i5 by quite a considerable margin. The i15 is miles better than the i10 in both forgiveness and playability but also looks. However did it improve on the i5? I dont think so.

The S58 was not really a great club in my opinion, Ping didn't get the blade right until the 57 and the 56 is a huge improvement on that.

I hear that the i20 will have a thinner top line and a shallower cavity. It will hopefully also have a ferulle as well.

A new Anser iron will also be added to the range, well so I've been told tonight.

i20 fitting at Gainsborough I believe will be the order of the day.

I was tempted by the I15 and the I20 could tip the balance but I'd need to see them and try them forst. Sounds interesting though. Tried the S range and couldn't hit them well enough so doubt I'll be able to miraculously do so with the new offering

Homer,

I find it really hard to believe that you didn't hit the 56's at least as well if not better than your TM's. They really are very very forgiving.

Still I guess a lot of it has to do with what suits your eye.

g5 i5 g10 i10 g15 i15 i20 g20, if you aint got a swing you aint going to win, stop trying to buy a golf game, invest in some lessons.

Thanks for your input, now care to explain what it has got to do with the new i20 irons?

If you had a set of i5's from new and have played 2-3 times every week then they'll be in need of replacing by now. Grooves will have worn down.
If you began playing with G10's and your game has got better and your swing stronger, you may need different irons to get the best from your game.
Sure lessons are an investment but so are clubs that suit you. :D :D

Is this how you find the s series irons craw?

Seriously thinking about them, had a try of the i10s at the weekend and didn't get the chance to try the s57, which i wanted to do....

Have you tried s59 or s58?

I had the S59 which I liked and now have the 57's. I would say that the 57's are streets ahead of the 59's I had.

I know a few people who have the 56's and from what I've hit of them they are even better than my 57's. Ping have really got there 56's spot on. Amazing bats.

This is what interests me so much about the new i20 as it's meant to be styled more in the model of the 56. Sounds like the perfect bat to a Ping whore like me!

Thanks for that.

Wasnt taken with the i10's really. Might hold off and try the i20 and s56 and see what they're both like.

The i15 looks good but only hit it in a regular shaft so hooking everywhere!

Highly likely i'll be joining you on the ping bandwagon though!

The i10, is probably more of a players club than the s56.

Its a good club but I'd recommed the i15 ahead of it.

You are right however the i10 was a club that failed to live up to the previous i5. I would say it was not as good! The forgiveness of the s56 is in my opinion and others is greater than the i10.

Does that make sense???

I know what I'm trying to say!
