Thanks for the feedback on the original post, some mixed experience's and i guess it all boils down to personal preference and what people expect to get ouf of C/F.

Difficult thing with looking at new clubs is always the vast amount of choice out there. I've always used Mizuno but don't particularly like their latest products - Comp EZ's were my personal favourites.

In response to murphthemog's comments about 'Why Ping?' I like the idea of the design of the i15's in that they are progressive clubs being more forgiving in the long irons and more comact in the short irons - reminds me of the design of the Maxfli A10's!! That to me is a benefit over my MP60's if your having a bad day

In respect of other brands - I don't particular like a lot of what Callaway has to offer, Titleist are superb clubs but do they justify the extra cost over other brands (let me know if they do!!), Nike i'm not overly keen on, same with Cobra so choice and quality start to reduce from there. Aside from the above, there's only really the Taylormade TP's i like at the moment and there could be a bargain to be had with the release of the R9 TP's - so will have to give them a go as well.

Will go with an open mind to the C/F session and am looking forward to the experience - even if it rules Ping out of the running! :D

I just can't get used to the matt finish on Pings, and all their clubs, even the S58s look a bit ugly. Some are small and ugly, others are clumpy and ugly. Since you spend alot of time looking at a golf club, I want to look at a nice one.

If I was buying now, I don't know what I would get, but it wouldn't be anything from Ping, even if I hit it like god.

I like the I15's and to be honest the finish is only a minor point compared to the feel and trajectory. I've hit the R9 TP's and like them but struggled with the heavier shaft compared to the regular R9 (113g in the TP compared to 95g). That said the feel off the face is sublime and even the 3 iron is easy to hit.

I use Ping for the following reasons:-

1 Best custom fit available.
2 Great feel (Don't listen to all the forged is best Mumbo Jumbo).
3 No glare from what little sun we get up in Bonnie Scotland.
4 Don't look like crap after 6 months rattling about in a golf bag.
5 Still worth some money when it's time to change.

I have looked at i15's a couple of times and the only thing stopping me from changing is the fact that I am hitting my i10's well and they are not that old. More than likely the end of next season.

Hi all interesting to read all comments regarding these irons.I was going to have a new set for christmas, fitted with my local pro now I am not so confident after reading mixed comments, in a right dilemma.

Mr shark,

I just changed from S59's to i10's. I looked at the i15's but much preferred the look, finish and shape of the i10's.

I would also agree that custom fit wise they are the market leaders as far as i'm concerned. I had my I5's custom fitted, S59's and a driver all custom fit at St Andrews.

Last year I got a couple of Tour W wedges as well. I got them from a totally different source and didnt tell them that I was already a Ping freak. Low and behold, after my custom fit session I was again fitted with green dot, standard length, white grip.

Coincidence? No a custom fit thats proven and works.

I used to use Ping i3+ irons and loved them to bits. Not pretty clubs but easy to hit. The i15's to me are are the nicest looking iron ping have made but I wonder if there would be much difference in the way a mid handicap club golfer hit i15's compared to i10's. i5's or even i3's ???????

And herein lies the problem. I love my i3's (and I happen to think they are good looking). The stats showed that when I hit the I15's right, they went bloody miles and very straight. But the G15's went more consistently slightly shorter and still straight. But they are most definitely not as good looking.

There are all kinds of anaologies and metaphors to be drawn here, but at the end of the day life is a compromise. Good looking clubs and the occasional fabulous shot to rave about? Plain Jane girlfriend who goes like a train?
You just can't have everything....

At the end of the day does it really boil down to the looks though. I use to have Callys in my bag (X14, and X20) and they are similar to PIng in that they will never win any beauty contests. The point was they did the job and I could trust them behind the ball.

I like the I15 and think they are a step up from the G15 and what went before. Agreed they are still instantly recognisable as Ping but give me substance over style everytime. If you go to a demo day (any make) or C/F and hit a lot that are tightly packed together but maybe 5-10 yards shorter than a set of balls that a spread out a bit, I'd go for dispersion over distance.

Have to diagree with you homer on the i15 looks. I still think the i10 is a nicer looking bat, both cosmetic wise and at address.
