Ping G5

With my limited knowledge, I think the shaft, not the loft, is the key. Am using a 4 wood (17 degree) fitted with a nvs75 regular shaft and it goes out on a medium to low flight. Also have a Nickent 3 iron recovery with the proforce sr shaft and it goes out lower than the driver as well so I think the Ping shaft in my driver could? be the problem.

The NVS shaft (orange i think)produces a mid/high flight. The NV (green) that is in your 10.5 deg driver produces a low/mid flight. The ping shaft is the cause of your high flight in your 12deg driver as it is also a higher launch shaft. You may have been better getting a 12deg with the NV shaft. Not sure if you can remove them and swap them.

You are ill-informed you quite clearly state that 12 degrees is too high a loft.

Nonsense, if thats the case why do manufactures make them in 12 degree models? Basically its because once people are custom fitted on launch monitors that loft suits their game better and gives them a better ball flight and distance.

I am a four handicap and use a 12 degree lofted Ping Rapture which was custom fitted for my swing, I incidently hit this consistantly lower than my mate who plays off of one and uses a 9 degree FT5.

By simply fitting a 12 degree driver with an 85g shaft instead of a 65g shaft you will lower the ball flight, again by changing shafts from a low kick point to a mid or high kick point you will lower the ball flight.

I am not having a go at your knowlege or understanding of the equipment, I am merely pointing out that you state that into the wind 12 degrees is too much which is bull. That is misleading to the OP as quite frankly it may not be the case given once they get custom fitted or put on a launch monitor. As I say I hit the ball lower with my 12 degree driver than my mate with a 9 degree, even into the wind.

I'm also a regular links player as well so know what its like to play into a hoolie!

I stated 12 degrees was too high for the conditions due to the balloning, not necesarily too high for the player on a normal day..!

You clearly havn't bothered to read my other posts in this thread properly. As I've no issue with getting fitted properly & actually have suggested it. And I have gone into in some of the other posts in this thread about shafts & kickpoints. When I refer to the 12 degrees as being way too much is in relation to the conditions i.e. the wind.due to the obvious increased backspin caused by increased loft. & yes the choice of shaft will have an effect. But in high winds if someone must chose a driver for the bag on days when its hownin'then I'd certainly feel safest keeping the ball under the radar so to speak. And as you say, you too are experienced at links golf play & playing in inclement conditions too, so you will know how best to keep the ball down, some of us can take high lofted clubs & alter the way it works for us, all the usual things.

But If someone is having a ball balloon in play then there are several things that can be going on, but one way or another too much loft off the face in conjunction with swingspeed & too much spin is going to be an issue especially with a high lofted driver.

Its interesting that many clubfitters don't like giving us too firm a shaft or too low a loft, but even if a high lofted regular shafted driver is on any normal day the right club for Mr Average golfer, given high winds if the Mr Average golfer doesn't adjust the way he uses the club or decides a different club with an adjusted setup for thos conditions, then putting a different specification of club in the bag on those days is the order of the day. Hence this is why I have a 9.5 degree Titleist with a shaft having a high kickpoint in the bag to further help keep the ball down & through the air with as low a spin as I can achieve.

I could go off at a tangent & give some examples but feel there is really no point at this moment. Hope for the moment this helps clarrify what I was saying. As its Ironic that we are aguing over something we actually agree on.. rofl.
