I've just bought myself some second hand G20 irons. Previously went to AG who told me I'm standard loft and lie, so went for the black dot.

The set's missing the 9 iron so I've had to buy it separately and it's a red dot. My question is, am I likely to notice a difference when using the 9 iron? Obviously I can get it adjusted if need be...

Red is one degree flat, so MAY point the club a little right, or being it back to the right at impact. Or something like that. A more upright lie promotes right to left. I think.

Take it to a Ping stockist and they will send it back to Ping who will normally move a club +/- two degrees or so. One degree won't be a problem

I don't think you'll notice.

I'd play with it as is, but if it plays on your mind or find you hit it more right than other clubs, or divots are deeper on the far side then you can always get it changed later.

Thanks all, I think I'll give it a bash and see how I get on in that case.

I play off 23 so doubt I'm good enough to notice, but it's whether it plays on my mind more than anything!

My only word of warning is that ag told me I was black dot std length in regular shafts. Went to ping hq, Marron dot, 0.5" longer in stiff! Not much difference! Guess what ag stock?

It's weird how everyone is saying 1* either way wouldn't make a difference. I used to lose a lot of balls left and after a fitting it was suggested that my clubs may be incorrect. We hit the 9/7/5 off a strike board and they all showed consistently that the set in question needed a 1* change.

Within half a bucket I'd stopped losing them left, my strikes had improved from slightly out the heal to bang out the middle and most irons were 10 ish yards longer.

Red dot is 0.75 degree flat lie, which is sufficiently near to standard lie that you probably won't notice the difference, especially with a short iron like a 9 iron. Were you properly custom fitted for the rest of your set, or did you buy them off the shelf from AG? They will always tell you that standard black dot clubs are perfect for you because that is what they stock. They told me that, but I was custom fitted by Ping HQ at Gainsborough and know that I need orange dot 2.25 degree flat lie clubs! Ping themselves will adjust their clubs for free, apart from postage, or you may have a local club fitter who can also do this for you at a small cost.

I'd just aim a little more left with that club for now....

I would not do that personally. Messing with your setup at address might lead to different shot errors. The less than 1 degree difference will surely only result in a couple of yards difference left or right and that's on perfect shots.
