Been looking at getting new set of irons but was wondering what everyones thought on the ping service. Does this actually work or do we think its all in the head and we just feel more confident with them which leads to better play

Hi Sneil,

I didn't have an official handicap when I got fit in March 2011 but reckon I was prob mid 20s. The guys in Gainsborough were great, got fit for irons and my driver (I didn't get on with fairway woods or hybrids at the time). The service is second to none. Im still playing with the same clubs. I'd say have a rattle off the woods while youre there, not sure how theyll stack up against your R11s but it might be interesting to try different shafts at least.

In my opinion its money well spent, but then others will say buy an old set off ebay and spend the rest on lessons. Hard to argue with it. But if you can afford (and have the inclination) to do both, why not?!

We do reader fitting features in the magazine with the major brands fairly regularly and in short, yes it will help. Make sure you go to the national centres rather than a golf superstore though for an authentic service. The added confidence you mention from playing fitted clubs is just a Brucey bonus on top of the extra performance you'll find using the right specs.

I did a whole bag fit at Gainsborough and it was fantastic, the guys show you all the numbers etc and work out what's the best fit and what feels good for you. They have loads of different options for you to try out. £30 well spent in my opinion and obviously helps the mind knowing you have the right set up.

Me too.

Was changing clubs frequently with advice from Pros at retailers. Not changed for 4 years - so a good investment

Had a fitting with my local pro but had a query with the shaft options. Their technical support were superb. Ended up going for a hard stepped option and a three day turn round from order to delivery.
